You're welcome Matt!. . . and thank you !
I was hoping it was OK that I keep sharing your great site with everyone here looking for more SWW info. I consider you my "tour guide mike" for MGM ;) (and especially for our visit to SWW)- your info and updates were right on and made our trip perfect :thumbsup2 - I can't even tell you how excited my little nephew is to be going again this year - and how much it means to him to have these fun times to look forward to! :yoda:

subscribing to this post....I need all the hints/tips I can get. Thanks to all

does anyone know when they will post who will be at this years SWW ???
This will be our first trip and we are all sooooooo excited ... I have on DH and two DD's that LOVE Star Wars ...
Thanks

Is this all at the MGM... also - do these activities run later in the evening when the park closes so that those staying at the resort can do some of these things without the large crowds..

Any more info on Star Wars weekend or where to find information on this would be really great as this is our first trip and son is a star wars fanatic.

If they have people from the Star Wars movies there signing autographs make sure you get to the stand where they give you wristbands early. They only give so many out for autographs. The wristbands were gone within an hour. Atleast when we were there.

Our first SWW was in 2004. DD (then 10) is the big fan and she dressed with a Jedi type costume. She drew quite a bit of attention from CMs and the costumed characters. They interacted a lot with her. She also brought her own lightsabre! It made it all more fun.

We'll be down for our third SWW this year. It's lots of fun. We don't plan on rides just enjoy seeing the sights and characters. We'll try for buying the LE pins. And it seemed last year there were a lot of pins from past SWW on cast lanyards to trade.

I'll also make sure we have reservations at one of the sit downs because it will be very hot and crowded. It's great to park for an hour and relax and cool off!

Wow, that comment means alot, thank you. I'm glad to be of some help to people and it really makes my day to read something like that. And by all means, feel free to shamelessly plug the site all you want. Let me know if I can be of any help in your trip planning.

Last year the list of celebs came out in April so I suppose it will come out again around the same time.

Be sure to check out http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main as I think that's got some useful info there.

OK....so we have to run to the line for special merchandise....get a fastpass for autographs before they run out....hurry to sign up for the jedi challenge....get to WWTBAM....and stake a good parade spot an hour in advance.

whew....sounds like fun but is it possible for DS and I to do it all solo?....I can't leave him in a line by himself while I get in another one. :confused3

We'll still go....I just want to have a realistic plan since it'll be only the 2 of us and I don't him to be disappointed.

Does anybody know which merchandise is only available at the star tours shop and what can be purchased at the other shops/carts?

All advice is appreciated....Thanks!!!! :earsgirl:

and it was so much fun, there was no question about returning for the same week (to include opening weekend of SWW) this year!

I got most of my updated info from Matt's website...oh, and Matt, I'm loving your podcasts! Maybe all the QuickGold fans can meet up?

Last year DNeph (8) and I had the same challenge - luckily for us we went all 3 days. . . and we didn't wait for the 'actor' autographs or for the limited edition merchandise. They were selling SWW stuff in the little store behind the left side entrance of Indiana Jones - they had some pins, tshirts, posters, toys, etc- the lines for the SW shop were way too much for us! :crazy2:
This year we'll run right over to sign up for the mind challenge - then over to try and get picked for the jedi training - then find a spot for the parade - then back to the main stage for the end of the parade - then meet for the mind challenge . . . don't see any way to fit in WWTBAM SW edition since they only run it twice in the morning. Now that I'm thinking this out, we may have to change our plans and go back over to SWW for Sat AM, too - there is just too much fun to be had! :ewok:

Matt - what do you think the effect will be on SWW that they have AM EMH scheduled for Fridays?- I'm wondering if they'll have the storm troopers opening the park early?

NOTE TO QuickGold fans: be sure and check out the links at the very top right of his site - that's all the events, schedules, etc from previous years - it took me a few visits to find it all again!

We went for the first time last year. Maybe it was the day we went, but things were not nearly so hectic, except to get into Tatooine Traders, which we passed on, execpt for passing through from Star Tours. Easy to get a parade spot and autographs, pic with Leia and Amidala, my DD9's favorites. Long lines for Chewbacca and others, but for our needs, it wasn't too crazy.

Let me add one other hint. Two months ago we saw "One Man Star Wars Trilogy" in Tampa, a hilarious one hour show. The "man", Charles Ross (I think) said he would probably be at MGM for SWW. By all means, see it if you have the chance - very funny

You and your son should have no problem doing what you outlined. Just make sure he understands what's going to happen. Also, if you're planning on going over two days or more, you can break it up and only have to hurry up in the morning for one thing (although knowing kids, if they do something fun on day 1, they'll want to do it again on day 2 :teeth: )

Regarding merchandise, some of the most popular items (plush Jedi Mickey/Darth Mickey) were available only at Tattoine Trader (store outside of Star Tours) along with all the weekend only merchandise. Other things like lightsabers, toys, shirts, etc were also available around the area. I'd recommend for that stuff to go to Golden Age Souvenirs (near Sounds Dangerous: http://www.mgmstudios.org/elsewhere.html ) since lines will be much easier there.

Maybe the storm troopers will be out for that but there will be no SWW events until regular park hours begin so the real reason to get there for EMH is to either go ride Tower & Coaster or to really be set to be the first one to sign up for things (between Indiana Jones and Star Tours). The storm trooper bit is pretty funny so I would think they'd be out (perhaps during EMH?) but I can't say for certain. At any rate, I'd advise you to skip MGM on that Friday as EMH crowds are never much fun anyway.

I'm sure you've seen this but if you missed it, I have a video of the troopers at http://sww.mgmstudios.org/main/index.php?q=node/44

Ok, here's the question. We fly in Saturday arriving around noon. Should we plan to go to MGM right away and start seeing stuff then, or do you really need to start in the morning (to get fast passes, wrist bands, etc)? We're definately going all day Sunday, so I also don't want to run DS9 too ragged! But I'd rather go two days at a more leisurely pace (is that possible) than go one day crazy and still not see everything.

Also, DS9 and I also saw the One Man Star Wars show in Boston. It was a riot! My son got many of the jokes, but there was also some good subtle adult jokes thrown in. The more you know about SW, the funnier it'll be, but anyone would enjoy it. A must see!!

If you want to participate in any of the trivia events, see the Star Wars edition Millionaire show or have your kid(s) do the Jedi Training, you'll need to probably get there at park opening so you can sign up for it in the morning. If you're going all day Sunday, I'd say that should be fine for you. If you do go on Saturday, you could do alot of all day stuff like character meet-n-greets, ride Star Tours and see other afternoon shows and such. Personally I like being able to do everything as soon as I can (patience is not one of my virtues :teeth: ) but I think your plan to break it up over two days sounds good. I hope this helps (or at least this post makes sense :goodvibes )

QuickGold- What are the events that have to be signed up for in the morning?
