Looking for a low budget vacation in the Wisconsin Dells.. Never been there... We live in the Catskills and want to getaway during the summer. Anyone have any cheap ideas? Where to stay, what to do?:confused3

Everything is pretty close by. Stay at one of the hotels that isn't attached to a water park (we like the Best Western). Get the Wisconsin Dells travel guides because I think they have coupons.

Do some research on the Dells.

Very high priced hotels and attractions in the summer.

I seriously think Orlando is less not counting transportation to get to Fl.

That is what I'm thinking too... BUT DH is tired of Florida and I'm trying to come up with somewhere else to go. We'd be driving from Upstate NY... DD is 12, really doesn't do rollercoasters... Between taking care of DH's mom and money issues, we did nothing last year. We did book a Dream Cruise for next Feb, but I'm thinking we need to get away this summer and the Dells were a thought....:confused3

The Dells can be just as much and sometimes more than a Disney vacation in the summer. :)

Try http://www.wisdells.com to get ideas about budget and things to see and do. :)

It can cost you a fortune in the summer. Trust me.

Do a lot of research ahead of time. Some of the mini-golf places run all day armbands. And Big Chief Go Cart/Coasters used to do the same thing.

Depending on how many days you want to stay at a water park & how many of you there are, it may be cheaper to buy armbands at Kalahari for a single day & stay at a smaller hotel like Holiday Inn Express.

The boat tours (upper dells is better) & ducks are both fun.

Circus World Museum is in Baraboo.

Big casino a mile out of town on south side.

There was a thread on here last week with places to eat in the Dells. Good recommendations.

There are about 4 major waterpark hotels, Wilderness, Mt. Olympus, Kalahari & Great Wolf. All nice.

We live about an hour from the dells and go to a waterpark every summer. Last summer, we held a mini-family reunion at the Wilderness Lodge in Wisconsin Dells. We rented a couple of 3BR presidential units from a Wyndham timeshare owner. WOW! The Wyndham resort was great. We had a great time at a great price. The regular deluxe units are really nice too. You can get great deals on the Wyndham units. They include the wrist bands for the resort water parks. The resort is big enough to keep busy. We went to superwalmart the first day and cooked meals and hung out for 5 nights/days. Didn't need to go to the other water parks. We found one of our units on the Madison WI craigslist and another on EBAY.

I was also going to mention looking into a timeshare type place. I know we stayed at one a couple of years ago. I know it was the Wilderness - probably Glacier Canyon. We had a two bdrm/2 bath unit. Really nice! Full kitchen, dining area, living room.....really very spacious! I think so much of a budget can be blown on eating out, so anytime we can make our own meals in a kitchen in our room I'm all for it!
