Hello Disney Friends! I am desperately searching for anyone that may be cancelling a Thanksgiving camping reservation at Fort Wilderness. We will need an RV site from Wed 11/22 thru Sun 11/26. I have been looking multiple times a day for a few weeks now and there's nothing. If anyone here is cancelling a reservation during that week I would kindly take that off your hands. :earsboy: Thanks in advance!

Good luck with your project. Sometimes evenings or late evenings are best because people call to make changes or cancellations at the end of the day.

Hope you find what you need. Just be persistent and keep trying.

I know it makes it tough for planning, but persistence does pay off. Often times, you will see availability increase at the 60 day mark and as it gets closer to the actual days.

Thank you guys! I'll definitely keep trying. This is not our usual travel time to the Fort but due to a new job this is when we have to go.

We love going during that time. We will typically depart the house (here in NE PA) on "Tuesday" night before Thanksgiving after work/school, drive for about 4-5 hours. We then pull over in Southern Virginia somewhere, sleep for the night, get up (clean up, eat breakfast, etc...) and get rolling on down the road for a full day of driving. Then we pull over about an hour or so outside of the Fort that night. Sleep, get up again, and pull into the fort on Thanksgiving day.

We will stay for the rest of that week and then leave either Friday night of the next week or that following Saturday morning.

We love that time because of the decorations at the Fort and Disney, but also it marries well with the school and work schedule. Our school district does a "Half Day" before Thanksgiving, and they don't go back until the following Tuesday. That means she will only miss 4.5 days and really that half day she isn't missing anything. One year they also had some snow cancellations to the point that she only missed 3 days. For DW and I, we end up with 12 days off of work with only 6 or 7 days of work (DW gets black Friday and I usually get a "Floating" holiday.)

I hope you get your days you want and have a great trip.

We may cancel our reservation for a preferred site during those days. We are currently booked 11/16-11/26. I will be sure to message you when we decide for sure.

We booked a trip 5/19-5/29 for my son's birthday but I am still trying to convince DH to do both. I'm not having any luck so far, lol.

Thank you so much!!! Please let me know if you do. I would love to have at least part of it! princess:

Thank you! We're thinking about driving straight thru on Tuesday and parking in the overflow parking lot at FW. If not, we usually stop in Brunswick, GA at a nice little campground right off of I-95. Driving straight thru isn't too bad for us though because we're coming from SC.

They won't let you stay in the overflow until you are checked in. So showing up and waiting in the Overflow until the AM to check-in proper is just like spending an extra day there (without paying) and they won't permit that. If, however you show up early (say 6:05 AM) and check-in for that day, and your site is not ready, they will let you use the Overflow. Again, though, not until you are an "official" (and paid) guest of the Fort.

On another note, for you to receive a "Message" (Privately) on this board, such as meanbean527 suggested to send to you when and if they cancel, you MUST have 10 posts to your name. It's the rules of the board. Just an FYI.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. :(

I'm not even sure how to take the tone message. To explain further though, it would be about 3 am by the time we got to Ft Wilderness so we wouldn't be staying a full night there without paying. On the "message" note...you're saying if she wants to release part of her reservation to me she can't because I haven't posted 10 times?

Sorry if the tone was bad... That was not my intent. I was just saying that they won't let you stay at the overflow until you are checked in. I know many other places have a "Late/Early" arrival area (aka - Overflow) where you can wait until they open the office in the morning. The Fort does not allow you to do that. You cannot check in before 6:05 AM (I believe) and anything before that is the "Day" before. So if you checked in at 3AM, that would be considered a day (or actually Night) and you pay for that day (despite it only having 3 hours remaining), and then at 6:05, you would have your "NEXT" billable day. That's just how they do it. Whether you are there the "FULL" night, or 2 hours of the "Night" they bill you a full night's stay.

On the "message" note...you're saying if she wants to release part of her reservation to me she can't because I haven't posted 10 times?
On the message part, what I mean is she cannot MESSAGE you on this board until you have 10 posts. She can do whatever she wants with the reservation as it is independent of this message board.

Sorry if my tone seemed off. I was just trying to provide info. Sadly the info was not positive type info.

Look at the top right of the page where it says inbox. Similar to FB messages only you can see. You can't get these until you have 10 posts. That way if it's private you have a better chance of getting the reservation. Good luck.

Just wanted to let you know that I was able to book a preferred site this morning! :dogdance: Thanks to all of you for your help!

Persistence pays off, doesn't it? We see it here frequently. Congrats!

You can tell I'm happy for you. Bama Ed

We too are keeping our eyes peeled for a Thanksgiving week reservation. We seek a full-hook-up, pet friendly campsite for Nov 19-25th. We will keep looking. The campsite is for my sister and brother in-law. My husband and I are already booked in a cabin with our daughter and my nephew, who will be staying in the cabin with us rather than in the RV. This will be our first stay at Ft. Wilderness. This will be my sister and brother in-law's second stay. Their first ended prematurely in evacuation during hurricane Matthew. They need a re-do.

Just keep checking! I was stalking the Disney Parks reservation page and finally one day a reservation popped up and I immediately called. Good luck!!
