Hi!

I'm helping a friend book her very first trip to Disney so trying to keep travel to their ADRs to a minimum.

Where do you recommend at DHS?

Thanks!

Hello Ontario!

Our last trip in June had us eating lunch at 50s Prime Time Diner and dinner at the Hollywood Brown Derby. Enjoyed them both and would go back to both. If I had to choose between them I would choose 50s Prime Time. Best fried chicken I have ever had. I really enjoyed the atmosphere -- really well done.

Hope this helps --
Caryn (formerly of WNY)

I can't speak from personal experience, but I have a dinner ADR for Mama Melrose (under the Fantasmic Dinner Pkg) for my TS meal. For my lunch meal, it was a tough choice between Starring Rolls and Sci-Fi Drive-In, but Starring Rolls won based on their well-known cupcakes. Although, Sci-Fi would be great for the experience.

We have eaten at both 50's Prime Time and Sci-Fi. We enjoyed Sci-Fi, but we love 50's. The fried chicken is to die for. And, the portion is huge (4 pieces). The pot roast is also very good. I had the chicken ceasar salad for lunch and will order it again without hesitation. The desserts are very good at 50's as well.

We had a over the top type server who was really into her roll the first time we ate there, but more "normal" servers every other time. They rag on you a little, but some servers are much more into their "roll" than others.

Hope that helps. Have a great trip!

I agree with PPs 50's Prime Time is perfect for situation. Best wishes to your friend.

We have eaten at Sci-Fi and Brown Derby, and we really like Brown Derby!

. For CS, it was a tough choice between Starring Rolls and Sci-Fi Drive-In, but Starring Rolls won based on their well-known cupcakes.

FYI.....

Sci-Fi Drive-In is a TS meal not a CS. And yes, those cupcakes from Starring Rolls win against any restaurant in DHS, IMHO. :-)

Mama Melrose is pretty good. Their chicken parm is a favorite for us.

We have eaten at Brown Derby and the food is great but there are very few things on the menu that we eat.

Sci-Fi Dine In is a lot of fun if you are into that kind of thing. I always enjoyed it.

50's Prime Time - we ate there once. There was only one thing on the menu that I would eat (stuffed peppers) but the food was good. The atmosphere was okay. I would rather not get yelled at by server but that is just me.

Guess it depends on what your friend is looking for and who is going to be there with her. Is this for adult meals or will for meals with children?

50's Prime Time is a great family place. The kids always get a kick out of the servers fussing at adults who don't eat their veggies. The food is good too; very All American with fried chicken, pot roast, etc.

Brown Derby is more of an adult place, although I've seen lots of kids there. But there is no "entertainment", except eating. The food is delicious.

Sci-Fi is also a good family place. Their milk shakes are sooooo yummy!

Mama Melrose's. to me, is so-so.

When we go to DHS we always go to Sci-Fi for lunch. It is a great place to have a break and my kids love the movie clips and sitting in the cars.

It has become a tradition and I must say when it is hot it is a great place to take a break as it is dark and cool in there. We were just there a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it.

I must have mistyped; I do know that Sci-Fi is TS and Starring Rolls is CS. I think I meant to type it was a tough choice for where to have our lunch meal since dinner is @ Mama Melrose. :)

If you are considering sending her to 50's Prime Time, just make sure it's the type of environment she would like. Personally, I will probably always avoid eating there just because I don't like the type of humor/harassment they dish out there. I know a lot of people love it, and it's meant to be that way...Just not me. I like more normal meals, though I would love to go there to eat just because of the decor & food. :) Same with Whispering Canyon, I'll never go there either.

There are 3 that I would recommend...
1) 50's PT Cafe - great food, excellent atmosphere
2) Sci Fi - good food, very cool atmosphere
3) Mama Melrose's - good Italian food

We have eaten at them all..my thoughts:

Mama Melrose - did the F!Package this past May - We thought the food was terrible.
50's Prime Time: We really enjoyed our meals here. We thought the food was very good, the service and atmosphere is fun..but it can be LOUD. DS8 has autism and sensory issues and he couldn't take the noise here..too much for him so we won't be going back - but I recommend it for a fun, comfort food, meal.
Brown Derby - we have had several very nice meals here..but I can't justify the cost or use of 2 credits on the Dining Plan...for us, there are better options out there.
Sci Fi - our favorite TS at DHS - the atmosphere is fun and the food is very good ( I LOVE the shrimp pasta dish).

Another vote for Sci-Fi. The food is pretty good, the theming is neat and I would say it is decently priced.

We do 50's every time we go. We love it! I love the role the servers play. I got busted for playing with my "walkie talkie" when I was using my phone. I was a bit dehydrated that day, and my server noticed how thirsty I was. She brought me out 7 drinks I think. It was great. It was very funny to have that many drinks in front of my plate. I ate the pot pie once, and that was good. I think I will eat the pot roast again though. It was yummy. My family loves the fried chicken, malts, and milkshakes.

Our May trip was our first time at Sci-Fi. We almost cancelled b/c my dad had read a negative review. We are so glad we didn't! We loved it. I don't think I've ever eaten a better burger.

We did Hollywood and Vine for the Fantasmic Dinner Package. The food was good. It wasn't my favorite, but the server brought us a plate with chocolate covered strawberries with chocolate drizzles and an edible "Happy Anniversary" Mickey thingy. There wasn't anything spectacular about the food, but it was good, and absolutely worth it for the Fantasmic ticket. Not waiting in line was "Fantasmic!!!" Haha. No, really. It was so great.

Another vote for Sci-Fi! My kids love it there and atmosphere can't be beat. You really feel like you're at a drive-in- very cool.
I also love the shrimp and pasta there- who knew!?
DS says burgers are good and shakes too.

We've tried all of the TS at DHS except Hollywood and Vine. By far our favorite is the Brown Derby. We also enjoy 50's, but I can't recommend Sci-Fi because of the poor service and didn't like Mama Melrose at all.

Another vote for 50's Primetime. It's our go to place in DHS. We love the atmosphere and the staff is a lot of fun. My DBF finished his meatloaf so fast last time the server asked him if he tasted it. She then brought his cleaned plate around showing the 2 rooms that cousin Chuck from Maine was a member of the clean plate club and everyone should follow his example. The servers seem to have a good sense as to who will take it well and who won't. She also harrassed my son and younger daughter (who were hiding veggies under chicken bones), but was lower key with my older daughter who is shyer and doesn't like to be the center of attention.
We ate at Hollywood and Vine last minute once and it just wasn't exciting, just a normal meal with nothing that would draw me back. We've never tried SciFi for 3 reasons: 1) there are an odd number of us and I feel someone would be left alone to eat but I could be weong on the setup, 2) the menu doesn't really appeal to us, if we want burgers we'll do a CS, 3) we use our sit down meals as a time to regroup, discuss our day, and make plans for the remainder of the day or the next and the seating doesn't look like it would make that easy. I like the idea of it though and if it was just me and DBF we would probably give it a try. We haven't eaten at Brown Derby or Mama Melrose or even thought of it as neither intrest us in the least.
