We're looking for something to do for a week this summer.

It has to be within a days drive from the Chicago area or the Wisconsin Dells area (we have a lake house there where we could leave from)

It has to be handicap accessible as our youngest DD is in a wheelchair.

We've been to The Dells a million times. We've also been to Springfield, IL. Mammoth Cave, KY. Kentucky Lake, KY. Galena, IL, Door County, WI. Gatlinburg, TN.

We like to go and see things instead of sitting in a hotel.

Any idea?

Have you done the touristy thing in Chicago? :) Then you could go home each night and sleep in your own beds! :goodvibes

St. Louis-City Museum, Grant's Farm, Zoo, Arch, Magic House. It's a great place for kids.

Minneapolis/St. Paul-Mall of America, Valleyfair, Science Museum, Children's Museum, Fort Snelling, various lakes/parks, Guthrie Theater,

I would have suggested Cedar Point, or King's Island, which should all be within a days drive or less. But I'm not sure about your situation with a special needs child and theme parks. If you guys go to parks, i would suggest that.

If not, you may search for a very nice hotel beside a water park and do that, or a nice hotel that has a fabulous pool that you can spend a bunch of pool time? Sorry if these ideas don't fit your needs, but I am not familiar enough with that area other than the 2 parks to really help.
