Hi to all

My DD (20) and her two college roommates are going to Washington DC in May for a long weekend.

Looking for hotel recommendations - cheaper is better and safer area is even better ;) .

Their time will be spent in the heart of DC seeing all the sights on "The Mall" but are not opposed to staying away from the city (let's say Alexandria) and taking the Metro in.

Please help ease this poor old mom's mind and suggest a place for the girls to stay.

Thanks!!

Have a magical Disney Day!! :earboy2:

Price line, Priceline, Priceline!

Convention Center area. I got the Grand Hyatt for $70 per night.

Giving a bump - hoping for more information:):)

Amen to Cindy's Priceline suggestion! You should go to www.biddingfortravel.com and look to see what amount people have been bidding and then getting in the DC area. I would think that most of the 3* and 4* hotels would be in fairly safe areas.

I absolutely love DC! I like to stay in Crystal City, VA. It's a safe area. Just be sure to snag a hotel really close to a Metro station. It's only 10 minutes to DC on the Metro!

I have stayed at quite a few hotels in DC in recent years and all of them were quite safe. Most were a few blocks from the Metro, but in daylight that was absolutely fine for all of them. The ones I have stayed at are: Marriott Wardman Park (very elegant, up by the National Zoo, very convenient to the Metro--unlikely to get a very cheap rate but it is a great hotel), Washington Marriott (GWU area), Courtyard by Marriott (across from the Washington Hilton--I got it for less than $90 per night just two years ago); Renaissance Washington Hotel (near the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and the New Convention Center); Washington Hilton; I also stayed one night at a Suites Hotel near DuPont Circle (it was in the Wyndham group of hotels but it wasn't a Wyndham--it was an old Classic Hotel--not fancy, but quite adequate and very safe). I have stayed at all of these hotels in the last 30 months, so this information should be relatively up-to-date. I agree with the suggestion of Crystal City. I stayed at the Marriott in Crystal City a number of years ago and it was an incredibly convenient location, near the Metro, and seemed very safe. Very nice area.
