I typically use my DSLR (a Nikon D700 with either the 24-70/2.8 or 50/1.4). However, there are a couple time for our upcoming trip in October that I would like a smaller option.

I am looking at either a mirrorless or a point and shoot. Anyone have any experience with the Panasonic Lumix GF6 or any other? I would like to stay under $500 for this purchase with the camera and lens system.

Thank you!
Sarah

I have some experience with a Panasonic G3. The G series is a good alternative to a dSLR when we want smaller and lighter while still maintaining high image quality. G6 is the latest version and is still expensive but G5 can be found for about $400 (with lens). My experience is these go through batteries quickly, for a long day at WDW I need two spares.

We didn't go for the GF series because we want viewfinders. I recently got a Panasonic GX7, focus speed is faster than G3 and high ISO looks cleaner. All of the photos on our website since December 2011 (until April 2014) are from a G3.
