Hi,

I just returned to the US from a week in Ireland. It was amazing! I loved everything except the coffee and scrambled eggs. What's up with instant coffee and runny scrambled eggs? LOL Oh well your bacon more than made up for that.

But the mushrooms served at breakfast every where I went... OMG they were incredible! Is it your rainfall? How are you preparing them? I've never eaten mushrooms that tasted so good (and I love mushrooms!).

What is the secret to your fabulous funghi? Can anyone give me the recipe?

Thanks for your help,
Cheryl

Hey, Cheryl :goodvibes . Firstly, runny scrambled eggs = proper scrambled eggs. There's a fine art to serving them up before they become firm and rubbery and start to produce whey. As for instant coffee... well, there's just no excuse!

How were your mushrooms served? Our field mushrooms have a fabulous flavour that no button, chestnut or portobello mushroom can replicate. It's pretty much down to choosing the best quality local produce rather than the mass-produced farmed mushrooms which the supermarkets pump out.

The mushrooms can be prrepared in everything from olive oil or butter and we do have an amazing range of mushrooms, I would expect they were chestnut ( did they have a brown or white cap?). Most like they were in a pan and cooked in a little oil or butter but you have to make sure you do not cook them so long they turn mushy.

Thanks for the replies.

Gotta admit that I probably will never take to proper scrambled eggs.
I will try preparing the mushrooms though.

The cards in front of the chaffing dishes SAID button mushrooms but I use button mushrooms all the time and have never had them taste so good so I think you both are right that they were some other local variety.

I think I'll try to find one of those "grow-your-own-mushrooms-at-home" things so at least I can get a better quality mushroom.

Thanks again and if I can ever help you find a recipe, just let me know.

Cheryl

Can't help with your recipe but i noticed you are from Mobile, i stayed there with a friend a few years back ( her dh worked for Cautaulds ) we had a great time :)

Glad you liked it Natalie. It's a pretty nice place I have to admit. Hope you can come back to visit during Mardi Gras. Lots of fun then!

We stayed for two weeks in her appartment and it was our 1st taste of america...we were amazed at how cheap everything was ! i seem to remember we flew into Atlanta and caught the greyhound to Mobile, ive got some lovely memories and your thread just helped me remember them :thumbsup2

As you know 1 Euro costs me 1 and 1/2 dollars, but I expected things to cost roughly the same. I thought food that cost me $5 in the states would cost £3.75 to basically cost the same but things that cost $5 here cost £5 there which is $7.50 to me. Ya'll are still paying more for things than we do and that surprised me quite a bit. I know that vacationing in the states would be very cost effective for ya'll if it wasn't for the airfare. Not only does your £'s go further but you're getting more for them. I bet Disney is counting on that! LOL

I read about the collapse of (I think) XL Tours while I was in Ireland. Roughly 1000 people out of the country, expected to find their own way home and 3000 people's holiday plans cancelled. All because of airlines and fuel prices. Very scary!

It's been a terrible time for people stuck with XL , trying to get home and being told you have to pay for it yourselfs, it's scary.

Another thing thats scary is our petrol (gas) prices, I think you pay about $4 a gallon ? It's nearly $9 here :scared1: .

I have visited New Orleans and love the south, loads to do , history and the people are so friendly
