are participating now - I have many, many questions and am interested in hearing experiences.

My daughter is in the CP now. She'll finish in May. She works in custodial on Main Street in MK. She had a difficult start, not caused by WDW in that she lost her financial aid for this semester and did not find out until she was in Fl. She is taking 6 hours at WDW and was set to take 3 hours via internet through her university. She had to show 6 hours registered through her university to keep one package and 9 hours for a grant. She tried to work it out, but never could, so I told her to get over it and just enjoy herself. She is in an apartment with 4 other girls, they had one other girl, but she chose to move into another apartment. She is charged $67 a week for her apartment. They are paid $6 or 6.50 an hour and work 30-36 hours a week. She is not one who is totally Disney immersed, but is sees the value in the program and realizes she will learn a lot to use in the future. What questions do you have?

I was on the CP for a year (Jan 01-Jan 02) and would love to answer questions :)

I worked both Rock n Roller Coaster and Monorails :)

Some questions I have are:

What is the best way to contact other CP students who will be starting the same time as you?

Do you think merchandising is a good place for her to start? what are the pros and cons of that?

She is unsure whether to go into a small room or room with a larger group.

What classes did you take while you were there?

Any information is greatly appreciated!

I was a CP September 2000 - January 2001. :)

Contact other CPs? As in, before going to FL? I have no idea about that. When you get there though, it's easy to meet people! I met my DH by wandering into his apartment the first night we were all there!

I was in merchandising, and it was cool. Not the best job in the World, but not the worst. And I don't think once you are assigned to a category, it's something you can change.

I actually really liked my job, I worked near the Main Entrance at the Studios and got to do different things like Oscar's, hotel delivery, package pickup, and merchandise shops.

Personally, I roomed with a larger group, lived at Vista Way with 5 other roommates. I chose that mainly because of the $$$, it was cheaper. And I came from living in a sorority house, so living with more people didn't bother me at all.

I only had the basic Disney Management seminar. They only had a couple of choices when I went, and I did the basic one.

Hope that helps! And if you have any other questions, I'd be happy to help as well.

I did the College Program in Spring of 99.

You can't talk to who your roommates will be before you get there, they basically put you in with whoever is in line near you... I was lucky enough to have made some friends in line!

If you go to www.DisneyAlumni.com there is a lot of info, and a message board where they might be able to post messages and see if if anyone else that is going to be going down has signed on to the site.

Anyone can feel free to PM me with any questions about the CP. It's a blast, and you won't regret sending your child down to do it

I was in attractions, and everyone seemed to be envious of my job (I was a tour guide at the Animation Studios tour at Disney MGM Studios) I got my Mousters degree, I took a management seminar, a computer class, and a Film Editing class. Also got to go to a cool open house experience at the animation studios (which sadly are now closed) where we met with an animator who was from NJ like me!

I also lived in the 6-person apartment, also for money, but everyone was awesome. The cool think about Disney is that it attracts such a specific type of person to even apply for the job, you know what I mean?

I was a Cp Fall 2002--and I am interviewing again in a week---

I worked Attractions at Disneyquest in Downtown Disney...... I loved where i worked I think its the best experiance of my life.

Yes Merchantainment sounds good my Roommate Did that and loved it She worked at Splash down Photo....... I lived in a three bed room the first half of the program from may to augest than they said they were renovating our building and my roomates and i wanted to stay together so we moved into a two bedroom so that three of us could stay together for the second part of the program.

as far as meeting people before you go down as stated above go to www.disneyalumni.com they have a message board that says college program info or wdw info or something like that that you might be able to meet some people going down thier. Does your chile have aim if so around 1030 at night well not so much right now but as it gets closer to the time going thiers a nightly chat in the a chat room pm me if you want details.
or feel free to pm me about anything as you can see ounce i start talking about the cp i cant stop talking i loved it so much and am hopeing to go back my self.

What is the best way to contact other CP students who will be starting the same time as you?

I searched online and found a group and 2 ended up being from the same state so we flew out togeather and ended up roomates. Id look through yahoo groups and such and see whats out there...

Do you think merchandising is a good place for her to start? what are the pros and cons of that? I think every job there has its pros and cons. I have friends that loved doing that :) Then again I had friends who worked custodial and loved it-

I lived in a 2 bed room- It really depends. I think a larger group it would stay more "equal" vs sides that sometimes my apartment got but either would be fun-

What classes did you take while you were there? None-- I slacked as I wasnt getting college credit anyway :)

As a sidenote -- I think this parent is a bit too involved. Your kid is going to be on her own down here; this is some kids' first step into an adult lifestyle. She should be handling this on her own. The CP people make it easy enough for you. I was 18, never had a job before, and never lived away from home, and my parents didn't even know what was going on until I asked them to drive me down. I see a lot of parents like this on this board, and I just don't get it. I met a lot of people while on the CP, all very independent and capable of taking care of themselves. Only one that I met was obviously "babied," and she went home after about a month.
