I started reading a series called Prescription for Trouble. They're not the most well written books in the world (some plot points really stretch your credulity), but they are enjoyable. They're basically medical thrillers. I've finished the books published so far in the series and am interested in reading more of that genre. Does anybody have some that they can recommend? Thanks!

some of michael crichton's early stuff comes to mind. i used to read them, and really enjoyed them. you might also enjoy patricia cornwell or kathy reichs-they're really more forensics, but still VERY good.

Robin Cook writes medical type thrillers. Usually an easy read as well

Some of Cook's are good. Some are awful. He wrote one about a pair of young women donating their eggs and getting involved in other weird stuff that was dreadfully bad.

I read and enjoyed one of the books by Kathy Reichs. Her books are the basis of the TV show Bones.

I have on eon my Nook but I haven't gotten to it yet (downloaded it when it was free)

Title: Code Blue. The cover has a blue and transculent pill

It's got decent reviews...

How medical? I just read one about a anthropology/forensic scientist -- titled Carved in Bone. It isn't exactly "medical" MD work, but fascinating forensic work.

If you want a child psychology/with a strong medical and mystery twist read some of Jonathan Kellerman's early books (late 80's-early 90's). He had a great one that centered on Manchusean by Proxy.

Michael Crichton's early books (Andromeda Strain) have medical basis.

Kathy Reichs books were good, but are now formulaic.

I just read Code Blue and just finished Carved in Bone last night. Code Blue was ok, Carved in Bone was good. I also just read Syndrome (another free Nook book :thumbsup2). That was a descent book-interesting storyline-not all that well written but it wasn't bad either.

Wasn't that Michael Chricton's 'Next'? I agree, it was beyond terrible. I loved his earlier stuff, though.

I liked Tess Gerritsen's books. Be careful though - only some of them are medical thrillers.

You can see them at her web site.

I love Tess Gerritsen. Hands down, my absolute favorite was 'The Bone Garden'. I highly recommend this one, especially if your looking for something a little different from your typical thriller.

I've read Robin Cook's for years and years.

Early Michael Crichton, too.

Even drifted from there into Dean Koontz (thriller, but not medical. I swear, his one book, "Intensity" maybe?? drove me bonkers.)

Oh, and also not medical but scientific in a similar way are the Meg books, by Steve Alten.

Great thread! I really used to love the medical thrillers and should get around to reading one again, soon!

Try Strong Medicine and The Final Diagnoses, both by Arthur Hailey. They may not be "thrillers" but they are extremely good novels and both medical-related.

I don't know if they really fall in the realm of medical thriller or not but I really like Patricia Cornwell. The main character, Kay Scarpetta, is a medical examiner.

yes, thank you redlight! robin cook! his early stuff is pretty good! i was wracking my brain last night trying to think of his name, and couldn't remember it to save my life.

Code Blue is actually the one that got me started on this. (It was a free download for my Nook). It's enjoyable, but there are several times that it really stretches your credulity. However, I did end up downloading the next two books by that author and you can tell he is developing a decent talent.

I have read a lot of the Stephen Alten books and even get his newsletters. I have read all the MEG books and the LOCH as I am very much into cryptozoology. Along those same lines I am reading a book right now called Cryptid which so far is fairly interesting.

I have not read Stephen Alten's other books (Domain, Shell Game) as they all seem very conspiracy-theory esque and he seems to truly believe what he writes if you read his newsletters. That is a little too bonkers for me.
