.....for coming to my rescue again! I wasn't going to bother with getting passports but we're doing a Carnival this year, Disney next year and in 2 years after that, the Panama Canal cruise. Therefore, I feel I'll get my money's worth!

I just renewed my DD19's passport and will soon renew my other two teens....they were all kids when we first got theirs and the kid passports expire after 5 years. We find them much easier to take along than BC. I am always afraid I will tear or spill something on the BCs...the passports are much sturdier and from what I am hearing in the travel industry....most destinations will soon require a passport and not accept the BCs anymore.

Well, in case anyone would like to know how long it takes to get a passport these days...the answer is one month....we sent away for my DD's passport on 3/7/03 and they said it would be back 5/7/03. Well, it came today 4/7/03.

We did not opt for the rush delivery because that is just too expensive!!!

You can also pick up an application at a large post office and turn it in there as long as it is a new application. The post office can not accept a renewal. I mailed DD's application in November and it took less than 2 weeks to arrive. A friend of mine just renewed his and it took 5 weeks to arrive. It depends on the time of year and if it is a renewal or new application.
Don't forget to get your pictures taken. I have found in our area that AAA and Eckerd's are the cheapest - $8.00. Kinko's prices are not too bad either.

In follow up to mmouse's post, I submitted our applications on 3/22 and received all our passports on April 2nd!
