Here they are. My email is all messed up and won't let me compose any, so will type this here. You can cut and paste it into a word document. Sorry it will be long!
"I Spy" Bag
Preparations: Cut
2 pieces of material (fleece would make the bag very soft, but is harder to sew) that are 6" square. On one piece of material, place a ruler diagonally from one corner to the other. Make a small dot at the 2 1/4" mark from that corner. Do the same for the other three corners. Draw a line from dot to dot, forming a 3" square. Carefully cut along these lines to form the "window" for the bag.
You will need a
4" sauare of vinyl for the window (thickness of 4 mil or more to give durability) and a
8" piece of 1/4" ribbon.
Construction: Center the vinyl over the cut out "window". Put a small piece of scotch tape on the corners of the vinyl to help keep the fabric straight. (If you use fleece, remember that it is very stretchy and it is easy to twist the shape of the bag.) Make sure everything is as straight as possible. Place the fabric side down under the pressure foot of the sewing machine.
Vinyl will stick to metal, so as you are sewing, make sure you do NOT press the vinyl to the plate through the window opening. The vinyl can also stick
to the pressure foot causing distortion as you sew. To prevent this, lower the needle to the starting point, then moisten the vinyl from under the foot all along one edge. This can be done with a sponge or damp cloth or even a wet finger.
Carefully sew around all four edges of the window with either a straight or zigzag stitch. Make sure the stitching is very close to the edge of the window. You could add a second row of stitching if you wish, follow the same instructions for the vinyl.
Next, pin the two pieces of the bag with the right sides together. Fold the ribbon in half and pin the piece of ribbon near one of the corners between the fabric pieces--the loop of the ribbon should be inside the bag. Carefully sew around the bag, making a 1/2" seam. Leave about a 2" opening on one side of the bag. Make sure to catch the ribbon in the seam of the bag. Do NOT clip or trim the corners or the seams. Turn the bag right side out. It is ready to be filled.
Filling: You will need about
1 cup of poly-pellets and an
asssortment of small objects to fill your bag. The poly-pellets can be found in craft stores, fabric stores,
WalMart in the doll making section. They are used as stuffing for dolls.
Ideas for small objects:
paper clip, button, penny, legos, googly eye, ring, golf tee, game pieces, birthday candle, coins, seashell, dice, beads, small army men, balloon, letters, bells, puzzle piece, smiley face, geometric shapes, spool, safety pin, artificial flower, small cars, rubber band, rubber armbands that are popular now, bracelet, locket, earring, clothes pin, small christmas bulb, sequins, pompom, popsicle stick, metal nut, small toys from McDonalds, small teddy bear, sports shapes or small balls, keychain, snowflake, butterfly, hair clips, hair ribbons, yarn bracelets
You do not want to use anything sharp that could cut the bag or the vinyl and hurt the child.
Choose about 20-25 objects and place them inside the bag. Insert a funnel into the opening in the bag and carefully and SLOWLY pour the poly-pellets into the funnel. ( if you don't have a funnel, you can use a rolled sheet of paper.) Remove the funnel gently and shake everything to the bottom of the bag. Pin edge shut. If you think you need some more pellets, add as before.
Do not overfill as you want the objects to be able to move around. Turn the edge of the opening to the inside and whipstictch closed. The stitches need to be small and close together so none of the poly-pellets will escape!
Make a tag that lists all of the objects in the bag. Laminate the tag and trim. Punch a hole in one corner and slip onto ribbon. Tie a knot in the ribbon so the list stays in place. Knead the bag to mix the objects into the pellets.
HAVE FUN!!!!
PS
I just noticed in the picture that you have that there is a handle instead of ribbon, You could do either one.
