Looking for input from CANON sx30 users...

I'm considering one of these cameras, but am a little hesitant because of reviews I've read regarding image quality and color drabness. I do understand about noise at long lens( distance) really looking for something portable, can carry all day, pack on the motorcycle, get great pics, image quality very important, some versatility- lens.
I am starting my digital photography class on Saturday and in the interim will probably use my old nikon 5400...but it is PAINFULLY slow.

also considered getting a used FZ35 I found....then cycle back to a ... oh no too many choices... i'm really overwhelmed... maybe I should just buy used til I get further into the class and know better what I want

Do you need that much zoom? If not, you can do better.

Not necesarily.... I like the relative compactness, like zoom ability, but do not need that much. Honestly IQ is more important to me, with some versatility...
I want it all in a compact body, but not the new sony price point!!
