We live in CT. Probably about 2 hours from White Plains. Jet Blue has some great rates for our travel dates. Is there any long term parking there? Any hotels that do a park and fly deal? Or maybe a limo service that runs from the Hartford area down to there? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

White Plains is a teeny airport. It's been a good while since I flew out of there (it was 2001-02,) but I think there were 4-6 gates then. There's not much room for expansion (as it's an airport smooshed where there really shouldn't be one,) so it's doubtful it's grown much, if at all.

Parking is limited to a single, small parking garage, is very limited, and is very expensive. You're risking IF there is parking when you get there. I've never heard of anyone being turned away, but then, anyone I knew who flew out of there has either been dropped off or had a car service.

I think I just read a poster say that there's a hotel in Armonk (I'm not sure which one, but last I knew there were only a few there anyhow) that does a park and fly deal. Not sure how you'd get from the hotel to HPN, though. They're not particularly close.

Depending on how much luggage you're bringing -- and how you feel about public transport -- your best bet might be to take Metro-North to the White Plains train station (or a nearby stop... as the White Plains stop may not be the closest) and take a taxi from there.

I love the airport; the upside of it being so small is that you don't have to worry about being AS early for your flight as one of the larger area airports. Be aware, though, that there's no place to buy food past security... the terminal area is pretty small. And if there's bad weather and flights get backed up, it gets crowded fast lol.

If the cost savings is substantial, it's probably worth it to try to figure out alt transportation arrangements. If not... you may find it's more trouble than it's worth.

One other thought... check Stewart (Newburgh, NY or SWF). It's probably similar distance from you in CT and the parking situation there is much better.

Good luck! :)

I use Newburgh/Stewart to fly to Orlando via Jet Blue. They have a website, and long term parking is $8/day max $40/week. Its a bit of a trek from the teeny airport, but if you have others flying with you, you can just drop them off then go park the car.

The airport is right off 84, so if you're coming from Harford, its a pretty easy drive.

I don't know about limo service, sorry.

I'd be happy to answer any other questions. I'm flying out of Newburgh on the 15th.

Thanks to both of you for the info. I did not know about Newburgh/Stewart. It looks like that may be the better option. MagiKitty do you know anything about the Homewood Suites that is in the airport? We would need to drive down the night before if we do this. Flying out of NY will be more of a hassle, but it is a huge price difference compared to Bradley for the 3rd week in April. We have always flown Southwest but I do not think they are going to come close to these prices when they release their April rates. Have you been happy with Jet Blue. We have never used them before. Thanks!!

I personally haven't stayed at Homewood Suites, but have driven by it, as its on airport property. There are a lot of hotels not too far away, on Route 300. Its a commercial area, there are plenty of shopping and restaurants.

Next week will be my second time flying out of Stewart to MCO. I've been quite pleased with it. In recent months, they've cut down from two flights a day to one. But since the airport is so small, it really takes no time to park, check in, get through security and go to the gate. Jet Blue has a small jet, six across, with DirecTv at every seat. They did serve snacks last year. I'm about 50 minutes from SWF, so I'm happy every time I can fly out of there versus Newark or LaGuardia.

We flew out back in July and parked at the La Quinta Inn Armonk without booking a room. They allow this.
It costs only $10. per night and they have a free shuttle that takes you to and from the airport which is about a ten minute drive. No need to make a parking reservation as they always have extra parking in their lot. You just go in and prepay as soon as you arrive and then off you go. When you get back, just call the hotel on the airport phone and they will pick you up. No need to go back inside the hotel. Just go to your vehicle and you're on your way.
They also offer a park, stay and fly package if you are looking for a room the night before your flight. Much cheaper than parking at the airport itself.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for the info on LaQuinta. I will look into that. Was it a fairly easy drive in from CT? Does the shuttle run early in the AM? Thanks!

We thought the same thing, I checked the website and it stated $8 per day and $40 Max........not true. The rates went up and the website had not updated. During July we went to WDW for two weeks, 14 days and no signs not one sign ever stated the rates were higher. When we returned we paid about $200.00 for long term parking which is the cheapest parking lot. We were outraged and there was no manager to speak with so the next day we called and spoke with the manager Lee and was told sorry the website has not been updated and that is the current rate and thats that. We didn't get a refund a credit of some sort nothing. So please call and speak with someone regarding the parking rates and be sure to speak with a manager.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info! You don't happen to remember what the rate per day was? Did you park at the credit card lot to the right of the airport, or at the larger lots in front?

Used my GPS to get to the hotel. Had to type in the actual address instead of La Quinta because the hotel has changed names recently.

Took about an hour and a half from south central CT to get there.
It is just over the state line into N.Y.

Got on the Merritt Parkway in Milford and it takes you most of the way.

Shuttle runs early in am to late at night.

Many pilots & flight attendents stay at this hotel

Here is the address :

Does anyone know if the Crowne Plaza in White Plains has a park and fly option? Their website says they have a shuttle to the airport but it does not say if you can leave the car there.

There are no signs stating what the daily, weekly, rates are at the airport. If you go to the website it states that "long term" is $8 per day, $40 Max per week and the "credit card lot" had higher rates posted on the site, which is why we parked in the "long term" to save some money. Now again I stress no signs were posted regarding the change in rates. We parked in long term, all the while carrying our print out of what we had read on-line. When we returned we paid $180.00 (I found my reciept) and we showed the parking attendent our print out and she stated she could not change what the rates were changed to and she was sorry that the website had not been updated, which did nothing for us. She gave us her manager's direct number to call and we did first thing the next morning, the manager gave us the same response, that the rates went up and the website has not been updated. We asked then why not have the new rates posted and the manager stated they are working on that and that many other people have been faced with the same problem when exiting the parking  It was horrible to come back to pay $180.00 after thinking we were going to pay $80.00 and no one was able to help us. Good luck!!!

I just got back last week from a trip to Disney in which we stayed at the La Quinta Inn before our stay. It wasn't worth it to us to try to park in the airport lot to find it full, or to pay the $25 a day.

We had an early morning flight so we stayed there overnight. We caught a shuttle from the motel at 7am for an 8:20 flight. So convenient. On the way home it picked us up within 15 minutes of calling. Nothing fancy, but it was clean. I think we paid about $130 or so for the room and than parking for the week. Pretty good deal.
