Hi -
We are going to DL in mid Nov with an elderly friend who has not been to DL in years and would love to be a part of the 50th celebration. She has had back surgery, has diminished lung capacity due to previous bouts of pneumonia, and basically has a hard time getting around. She has handicap plates for her car and can get a note from her doctor that will show she needs special assistance. What can we do about helping her to get around inside the parks? She uses scooters or walkers in the stores she shops in, but does not own her own scooter.

I know they have wheelchairs and ECV that can be rented, but they are first come first serve. What happens when we go from one park to another and the second one does not have anything available? I understand that Disney does not allow them to go from one park to another as well as not allowing them into Downtown Disney. Strange that they allow their strollers to go from one park into another though. :confused3

Suggestions?

Are you staying on site? If so, call the front desk and plead your case.

I have some back probs and had to rent an ECV at DL about a month ago (6/15). You ARE allowed to go from park-to-park (I even called ahead of time to be sure, and took full advantage of this while we were there), I'm just not sure about whether or not you're allowed to take them to DTD. When we were at DL they had a ton for rent. It didn't look like they ran out and the park was pretty crowded that day. So, I wouldn't worry too much about not being able to get one, especially in November. (Unless you're there the week after Thanksgiving, then maybe try to get one as early as possible)

If you are staying for a few days, you may want to consider using a rental service where you can have the ECV for your entire stay. I don't have a lot of info regarding this, though. Some other DIS'ers may have more experience with this, or you may be able to Google it.

I hope you have a great time on your trip! :earsgirl:

In mid November I think you would be fine with the supply of ECCV's. We always rent one for my fil and have never had a problem getting one. He generally joins us at the park late morning or early afternoon (he lives local). You can always ask a cm about taking it to DTD. I can also attest that you can take the ECCV between parks. Good luck!

My friend was just there with us and he needed a ECV because he is going to have back surgery soon and he can't walk long distances or stand for long periods of time. He arranged for a rental ECV to be delivered to his hotel room (They stayed at the Embassy Suites-South). I think that they paid about $150 for 4 days rental. The unit was delivered to them directly at the hotel. I think that they went on the DL website and arranged it ahead of time.

The daily rental at the parks is $55.00 per day and it looked like peple were allowed to go back and forth between the parks. We were there when it was extremely crowded and it looked like they had plenty of them in the morning when we passed by. It probably won't be as crowded in Nov. you probably would want to get there early just in case though.

Hope this helps!

That $55 includes a $20 deposit that will be refunded to you (cash or credit, whichever way you paid) when you return the scooter at the end of your day. Be sure to keep your receipt so you can get some of your $ back! Also, if you decide to leave the parks and go back to your hotel you can get a voucher so if you come back later that same day you don't have to pay again for another scooter.

Thanks so much for all the helpful info. Our friend Joyce has not been to DL in probably 15 years, and so much has changed. :cool1:

I will talk to her and see if she wants to rent one from an outside source (we're staying at the Candy Cane Inn) or if she wants to rent one daily from DL.

Time to set a counter for this trip...
