Looking for Inexpensive Vacation locations

We are looking for somewhere to vacation during spring break the last week of March and not sure where to go. Looking for suggestions. We considered the world and staying off site or maybe checking to see if I can get a deal on renting someones timeshare. We also looked at Destin and Gulf coast of FL.

Just looking for anyones input or suggestions on where and how to get a good deal. Some of the Timeshares I looked at want $350 a night.

Driving to save $. Disney is 16 hours for us. Destin is 12 hours. We would rather not go further south than Disney.

Okay, how about a trip to Tybee Island/Savannah Georgia? Lots of attractions (civil war sites, historic sites, marine science center, dolphin watching, parks, the tellfair museums), an extremely nice beach (it will be warm enough to be on the beach, but depending on weather, maybe a touch cold for the water, although it depends on you and what you're used to), the Savannah riverfront, and it's right off 95 (and the beach is only about 15-20 minutes - I'd stay in the beach area with the nice condos)...everything you can get in Florida while being closer than Florida and probably cheaper...

I was able to get a TS at Wyndham Bonnet creek for under $150/night for a 2bd in mid April....

For our April vacation we typically make it a roadtrip to Orlando. One year we stayed at Coco Key and did Universal. It was a package deal through Universal. One year we did Marriott World Resort and Sea World. Just yesterday my son was talking about how aweome that hotel was, I looked at the prices, $450+ a night! Apparently I got a REALLY good deal.

We have also stayed somewhere else and did just local attractions. We always do Disney Springs (and sometimes a Disney waterpark) to make us not miss the mouse, and it works!

Not sure which area you are driving from but Williamsburg is nice and definitely cheaper than Disney.

We went to Myrtle Beach last year for a spring break vacation. The weather was perfect - low 80's and sunny. The ocean temp. was chilly, but our hotel had a heated, oceanfront indoor/outdoor pool. We booked the hotel on hotels.com for around $45 a night, had a full kitchen, was on the boardwalk & had an ocean front balcony too.

Check out Hilton Head Island too...if you are looking at Tybee. I think it is much nicer and is only 30 min to Savannah. Lots to do...miles of paved bike paths, tennis, golf, shopping, fishing. Beaches are amazing.

There are tons of places to rent on VRBO. Hilton Head Resort is very affordable...like $500 a week for a villa. We like Palmetto Dunes Resort and will be there in April. Highly recommend it.

For timeshare rentals from owners take a look at Redweek.com and TUG2.net. Orlando usually has good deals on timeshares. The expensive thing for Orlando are theme park tickets. We often for budget stays, stay a week at a timeshare and do resort activities every other day and just do three park days (e.g. maybe a combo SeaWorld ticket for SeaWorld one day and Aquatica a second and then a splurge on an expensive one day Magic Kingdom ticket).

If we are going super budget, we visit grandma and grandpa, stay at their house, and do a day trip to Chicago lol (kind of chilly for spring break).

I vote for Dollywood. Dolly has a deluxe hotel now for the park called Dream More. It will be cooler, but not ice cold. The Smokies are free to enjoy.

There so many other activities to do there, as well.

Did you possibly misread that? $15 per point may be what you saw advertised. But depending on the dates, the number of points needed per night would probably be 15-20 for a studio.

Have you checked the rent trade board here on the Disboards?

Palmetto Dunes is not a resort, its more like a gated community. We always stay in Palmetto Dunes, but I rent through VRBO.

PAlmetto Dunes is a Resort. Palmetto Dunes.com. It is a gated community that has different "neighborhoods" if you will of private homes, condos and townhouses that are each named. It also has the MarriottHilton Head Resort and Spa and an Omni hotel within the gates. As an example, we are staying at Fazio Villas in April...it is a three bedroom townhouse that is pet friendly for $120 a night. We stayed here last April and really liked it. We also like the Queens Grant section....they are all on o e floor so no stairs and very spacious. Another section is The Moorings which is right next to the beach. If you google a map of Palmetto Du es you will be able to see all the sections. You can rent through the resort itself or through VRBO.com...which we like better. Prices are better with an owner usually.

The Hilton Head Resort is an older Resort that is not gated and not inside Palmetto Dunes. They are basic condos that are small but there is a boardwalk right to the beach. We have stayed here for like $500-$700 a week.

Another resort that is pretty affordable and rent by owner is Hilton Head Beach and Tennis.

Can't go wrong with any of these.

You aren't going to rent points for a March trip in January. DVC books long before that for Spring Break. Renting points is seldom a last minute thing, and you'd be really fortunate to get last minute Spring Break at the Beach Club (it would likely be because someone couldn't take their trip and decided to rent out their vacation).
