Looking for ideas for 2nd grade art project for auction

Hi Everyone,
I am the class rep mom for the auction. I need to come up with an idea for the 2nd grade to make a project that can be auctioned off at the auction. The K class is painting and decorating an unfinished bookcase and putting some books in it. The 8th grade is decorating some old window frames from a salvage yard. I was thinking of getting tiles and having each child paint it. Then, put it in an unfinished frame so it can be used as a trivet.

Does anyone else have any ideas? There are 30 kids in the class.

How about making a basket of Christmas ornaments? You could get some Christmas lights on sale now and most of the Christmas "stuff" is on clearance. Using clear bulb ornaments, you can paint the insides for one easy one. Baskets of Christmas ornaments make really nice bridal shower gifts.

Just some bigger ideas-
Painting a toy box- set it up patchwork size- paint solids first and then leave some squares blank for the kids to paint up.

Unfinished children's table and chairs- have them decoupage it with some "character paper" or go the vintage route.

Smaller ideas-
Tray?
Or if you really want to do tiles- how about a table? but tiles are tough unless you have a kiln to fire them up. You don't want the paint to chip off.

How about mossaic tiling a small table for outside? The kids could help break up the pieces(put them into a pillow case so nobody gets hurt.)

Do you know anyone that quilts? Have each child decorate a quilt square then quilt them together.

My son's Kindy class got several large clay garden-size planters from a 'paint your own' clay studio, and painted them with their hand prints and first names - they were then fired in the clay studio's kiln to seal the paint/varnish. The planters were then filled with stuff for gardening donated by the parents - flower seeds, trowels, garden gloves, etc. They sold for a fortune at the auction!

a quilt was my first thought as well. each child could decorate a square, then they could be sewn together.

I school I worked at long ago had each of the younger classes paint an impressionist-style large painting on a canvas. They used sponges and various shades of blue/white for the sky, greens for the grass, and pink/purple for flowers. I believe an adult did the flower stems then directed the kids in sponge painting the rest. The paintings were beautiful, and raised quite a bit of money.
