Hi, all! I'm a newbie to scrapping! I have subscribed to the Creating Keepsakes magazines for years, and have a TON of supplies already. I just haven't had the time to get started! I have lots of ideas though!! (Life just seems to get in the way...)

My dilemma is this...I am planning my DD's 1st birthday party "Mickey & Minnie's Tropical Luau", and would like to make killer invitations. The Christmas cards that we sent out were great, and now I have a reputation to uphold! I had originally planned on a "classy" card with a photo of her (dressed up) on vellum & tied with ribbon, etc... But, now I think I need to tie the theme in with it. Any ideas?? Pleeeeeease help me! I am very crafty and love to do these kind of things! Also, would love to hear of any websites to check out...

I really appreciate any comments! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

what about a picture w/ her in a hula skirt wearing a lei? I know Acadamy carries those. Maybe you could somehow work in Mic/Min w/ the theme. This is just an initial thought, maybe it will help. If anything else comes to mind, I'll post it. I know how important those birthday parties are!

Here's some clipart that might help.

gottago...what is academy? You are right, I do want to work in M&M in with the luau theme, but I'm thinking maybe have the "sweet photo on the front, with the min/mickey clipart & info inside. I know that people will think I am crazy for going all out for her 1st birthday, but it's a party mostly for adults! She has no clue what will be happening!

janette...cute clip art!! thanks for the link! :D

keep bringing on the ideas, I need help! (I'm starting 3 months early, so I can have time to make elaborate invites....)

gottago...forgot to mention that I love the idea of her in a hula skirt w/a lei! I believe that I've even seen baby hula outfits at B-R-Us... I HOPE I can find one!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

Academy is a chain Sporting Goods store. I believe they have a website. Let me know if you want more info on it.

Oriental Trading Company has lots of party stuff, especially Luau themed. Here's their link:

My daughter's dance costume is a hula theme and she's decided that's the theme she wants for her birthday. I'll be serving hawaiian chicken, and I saw in a magazine where they had made darling frosted cookies in a flower shape and strung them together with licorice to make leis.

:D don't worry about being too elaborate, we have these giant themed birthday parties for my daughter. Last year we had a real firetruck ride, chili, dalmation pinata and the whole bit. Of course she'll be 9 this year and it won't be too long before all she wants is to have her friends over. Enjoy it while you can!

Good Luck!

janette- I couldn't get the link to work for the clipart. Maybe I'm doing something wrong??

On the front of the invitation you could use a Hawaiian lei to frame your little one's picture wearing Mickey ears. If you don't have Mickey ears she could wear a red polka dot bow in her hair like Minnie. I thought that Deluxe Cuts had the lei but I did a search and I couldn't find them. I'll look and see if I can figure out where they are from.

chessie - Thanks! That is a great idea! I do have photos of my DD getting her 1st haircut at WDW with the ears on. But, I should probably take new ones, closer to her birthday? If you find the lei, please let me know!! :D Thanks again!

this is sooo fun!!
