DH and I decided to take a last minute trip to the Gulf (Gulf Shores, AL would be the closest) during Spring Break which is the last week in March. DH worked with a guy a few years ago that said if we ever wanted to use his place we could....but when we called last night he told us he sold it last year.

Two questions....can someone who has been give us advice on what to do/where to stay, AND does anyone have a condo/townhouse/apartment they rent out and would be willing to rent out to us?

I know it's probably a far-fetched idea. Many hotels are already full....only smoking rooms left. I'm thinking we're out of luck...but thought I'd try ya'll first before giving up!

Thanks....Amy

Can't help, but I'll bump this up in case there's anyone who can.

Can't help you with the rental but in Biloxi Mississippi there are tons of casinos if your into that kind of thing.

I've been to Gulf Shore a few times Nkjzmom, and I love it there!! :) :) :)

The best place I've found to stay is actually a state park motel there. . it has a restauraunt and laid back little bar, and the rooms are basic but clean, right on the beach with very reasonable rates. . :) Here's a link to some info on it. . click here.

As far as what to do there; the main attraction is the beach. . very similar to the ones on the Florida panhandle- calm waves, white sand. . very scenic and laid back. :)

Gulf Shores/Orange Beach has some good seafood joints and a couple little touristy things like a minature golf course and a small boardwalk. . but mostly it's just beach town where you can kick back and enjoy the beach aty a reasonable price. . :)

There are a couple more exciting options nearby- as Beth metioned, there are some 1st rate casinos in Biloxi, Ms. A cool afternoon/evening trip from Gulf Shores is to drive west down to nearby Ft. Morgan and take the ferry across Mobile Bay over to Dauphine Island. . then you go up and hit I-10 and make the couple hour drive to the casinos.

And if you go East from Gulf Shores, at the Florida border you'll find one of the coolest bars in the country; the infamous Flora-Bama Lounge. . . great food and great music; I once spent an evening there getting liquored up and talking to writer Hunter S. Thompson, and also met then-owner Jimmy Buffett. . . definitely have fond if fuzzy memeories of that place! LOL!! ;)

Hope this helps, and enjoy your trip!! :) :) :)

We rented from a private owner before. He was a really nice guy. I'm trying to insert a link to his website - hope it works.

Great it worked. We stayed in the Casa condo. Very nicely furnished and super clean.

Forgot to add you've got to eat at Lamberts - really good food and very entertaining. Also, be sure to try the Royal Reds at Gulf Shore Steamer (? i think that was the name) - a type of shrimp that tastes like lobster. You can only get them in the Gulf Shores/orange Beach. Have a wonderful trip.
