Looking for discount advice please.

Would I have a better chance of getting a discount for mid-Dec by doing i). or ii).

i). Book resort now (ASMu) and then hope for a public discount code to come out in Aug/Sept and apply the discount.

or

ii). Wait until public discount codes come out in Aug/Sept for mid-Dec and then book ASMu at that time.

Any thoughts would be really appreciated since I have not stayed on-site for some time and REALLY want to stay at ASMu (with a discount hopefully) in Dec.

I would book the room now. You can always apply a code if one comes out. This is especially true if you will be staying there regardless of a discount. Sometimes the Disney Visa as well as AP offer discounts that are not available to the general public too. You might want to at least apply for the Visa if you don't have one to gather up Disney Dollars in the next few months. They had a special where if you had a code from a current Disney Card holder, you could receive a $25 gift card upon approval. My son and stepdaughter did this using a code I gave them. Just some thoughts.

Agree, book now since you have a particular resort and dates in mind. If you were more flexible, I would say just wait.
Although I do not think this gives a better chance of getting a discount. It really only assures you get what you want and when.
