DH wanted to buy me a new dining room table and chairs for Christmas. Thank goodness he is letting me pick them out. :rotfl2: Where can you find good quality chairs at a decent price? While I have found a great table, it is the chairs that are killing me, I think $250 for one chair is crazy! Any suggestions?

Thanks

It depends on what you want... 250.00 a chair is not expensive... I agree it is sad and a lot of chairs in that price range are not made well.

If you want something made well for a reasonable price try to find a place that sells unfinished furniture and stain them yourself

If you are looking for something that will be around for maybe 10 years try Bobs discount furniture (do not know if they are near you) but they have decent stuff for a good price.
Good Luck

I like my Ashley dining room set. You can go online and find out if they have a retailer near you. Of course, Ethan Allen makes lovely furniture, but if you want to spend a little less, I found Ashley to be pretty nice.

We bought our set from Value City Furniture, it was very reasonable and 6 years later is still going strong!

I hate ashley and had a lot of problems with my set and it didn't last.

I have a solid table, like you I'm having trouble with the chairs. I found a few at a flea market but they don't match. I'm hoping to get a decent matching set soon. I saw one at sam's for $400 on clearance, I don't know if they still have them.

I guess I am just too frugal for my own good. We found a beautiful table but when the matching chairs were $250 I about feel over since I want at least 6 and a matching bench. I will just have to bite the bullet and write the check. I guess it is not too bad if I keep the table for 20 years or so. :rolleyes1
Has anyone ever shopped at the furniture outlets in NC?

Look and see if anyone near you sells Canadel furniture. It is made in Quebec, but should be widely available in the States.

My mom purchased a set when she got divorced (let's say 15 years ago) in Chicago and it still looks as good as the day she bought it. I know she paid a bit of a premium, but was also able to use a sale to her advantage.

Once we find a "new" house to buy I am going to get new dining room furniture and I want to buy Canadel. Seriously I have the ugliest 1960's-70's Ethan Allen Maple in a not so attractive orange wood tone--it was my husband's grandmothers. Now when I say it was hers, I mean no one else wanted it and we were broke and had no table so we took it. I even tried to sell the set one time when we got a little extra money--it is in nearly perfect condition and includes: a corner hutch, a full buffet with top, table and 6 chairs all made my Ethan Allen and I asked $100 obo (one lady responded--to ask why it was nearly orange colored). :rotfl2: Needless to say it didn't sell.
