Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too........ Part 2

Oh, yes. Me too. And now, I'm the proud owner of one of THOSE kids. He is pretty good, but expects too much - and why shouldn't he? After all, that IS what I have taught him.

Oh the weaning. Five days, I'd be worried for me too!!! No, I'm hoping it should be smooth sailing. We get shots tomorrow, then maybe Sat down to once a day.

Hey, question. I have been checking out you tube. I had no idea there were so many people who video disney stuff there. Some of the rides I have ruled out based on books, have seemed not so bad when I watched the video.

If you had a turning 4 yr old who was big for his age (about physically the size of a 6 yr old) what rides would you NOT do? I think Everest would be too much, but I had a large list of things to avoid, now I'm wondering if I am wrong on that. (PS - we watched the Pirate ride that I had been warned about. Seemed pretty tame to both DS & me... )

I'm sorry, but I have to laugh at this becaue I'm in the same boat. Remember those days before kids when you would see a child having a meltdown at the store, you'd turn your nose up and think, "my child will never behave that way?" Well, my child turned into that child!!!!!! There is such a fine line between rewarding and spoiling. My child is spoiled and I'm the first to admit it. She totally has only child syndrome. But it breaks my heart to see her sad (and believe me, she knows how to play me!), when that lip quivers, the eyes tear, and she tells me how she's the ONLY one without such and such. I was worse when she was younger, but now DH is falling into the trap.

Also, I thought you were leaving in 5 DAYS, not 5 weeks. THAT'S why I questioned you about weaning. Imagine, down to twice a day and leaving in 5 days! You had me worried!

I think Pirates is totally tame. When we went in 2006 DD had just turned 5 - and we found out she is our little adrenaline junkie! Seriously, she's a daredevil!!!! But she was just tall enough for Test Track and loved it, Tower of Terror and loved it, plus everything else. Before Haunted Mansion and Pirates and ToT, and anything dark, we just told her that everything was pretend, that Disney World liked to play tricks on us. That worked great with her and she never got the least bit scared! When we went last month she was finally tall enough for Space Mtn and (say it with me!) loved it! She's very excited for Everest in May. I'm not sure about Dinosaur though - even DH says he won't ride that one again!!!!

Seriously though, I think as long as he's not afraid of the dark, he should be fine on Pirates. Some kids get freaked out in Snow White though because of the dark and the witch. As long as he knows that the "bad" stuff is pretend, maybe he can make the distinction.

Yeah, the only thing that scares me is the dark thing. He can totally be a dark woosie. He STILL sleeps with his light on at night. He claims he will be okay on the rides, but I'm a little concerned. Any hints on which one might be a good (short) darkish ride to test him out? I too think he'd flip with Snow White. I was thinking Buzz might be a good first one to see how he does...

BTW - DS was 45 inches with no shoes at his just turning 3 visit last year!!! I know he is taller now, so I think he could ride just about anything.

She did Dinosaur last time (she was 7) and getting on the cars wasn't sure i have to say but i went on 1 side of her and her uncle the other and yes she screamed but only as much as we did she now loves that too because afterwards the pic was just the funniest we all looked more scared than she did ... 6 adults more frightened than my DD7

Whoa! You've got a tall one there! DD had just hit 40" when we went when she was 5! And she's just barely 45" now! At least I don't have to worry about her wanting to go on Rock n Roller Coaster. I hate that one!

For a darkish first ride, hmmmm..... yeah, Buzz might be a good one at MK, and even though it's not dark, Small World will get him acclimated to the whole "ride" thing. Oh, if he's 45", you'll definitely want to take him on Splash Mountain!!!! Just talking about it is getting me all excited again!

She was a big baby when it came to rides, and yes, she takes after me! I used to ride the thrill rides when I was a teenager but now they just scare me to death! I'll do Splash Mountain but I'm terrified the WHOLE TIME! I promised my DD I'll do BTMR this June but I'm so not looking forward to it!

Renee - I think another good dark ride would be Peter Pan. Being the scaredy-cat DD was, she still really enjoyed that one, plus Snow White, POTC, & HM. Like Kara, I just prepared her before hand and she was just fine - and she was just 4 when she went on all of those the first time.

Okay, call me a fun ruiner, but DS and I have been watching the you tubes of certain rides. After watching several I asked him what he wanted to do when we get to WDW. Ready for this?

1. Play ring around the rosie
2. Play it again
3. Meet new friends (he is a social butterfly)
4. Play in the pool
5. Play with his new friends
and oh yeah - eat dinner with Mickey, Pooh, Tigger, Pluto, Goofy, Daisy and Minnie ALL IN ONE SPOT
He also mentioned something about meeting "Dinglebell"

She was a big baby when it came to rides, and yes, she takes after me! I used to ride the thrill rides when I was a teenager but now they just scare me to death! So cute, Renee! I'm sure your DS has no idea what to expect.

The first three times my DD was at WDW, she was 2 1/2, 4, & 5; ask her what her favorite thing to do from each of those trips and she would say the pool! The pool? I spent all this money to come to WDW and the thing you like best is the POOL?

It doesn't take much to thrill little kids - but I'm sure he'll enjoy everything.

And I forgot to say, thanks to everyone.

We could maybe try to FP Peter Pan when we go that first evening. That way he can get a good idea. IASM or Pirates would be good to. We shouldn't get there until 2 or so, so I'm not holding much hope for rides. Mostly char greetings. Maybe a ride or two, but mostly to just soak it in.

I watched the Primal Whirl ( I think it was called) YIKES that thing looks a bit scary too!

I never understood what the big deal was about the Snow White ride. It's not dark the whole ride and the seven dwarfs scenes are so cute! The witch is scary, but she "pops" out so-o-o- slowly -- my daughter just wasn't startled by it. And it's over so quickly!

OOOOOOHHHHHH BTMR is my all time fave from being a kid and my DD loves it now too yes she is a crazy thrill seeker
I have to say i love anything fast and crazy however a Big Wheel scares the beejeebas out of me for sure

Wow, I can't hardly keep up with you guys !!! Miss one or two days, and I'm pages behind...

I've got four days before my 180-day ADR window opens - got to start thinking about where we want to eat on our Fall trip - especially since I want to get at least a dinner at Le Cellier and maybe at the Ca. Grill, too. Maybe I'll check on some dining reviews (aka food-porn) to get inspired. And most likely hungry, too.

Double YIKES - spinning and drops! I don't do well with spinning rides - almost threw up once riding the teacups! My DD, on the other hand, doesn't think that ride is too bad; she'll do that but not EE.

We plan on bringing DS on Snow white. I have asked all over this board and everyone tells me he should be okay. DH and I have never been on it (lines are always too long) So we shall see what happens. Does anyone know the best place to see Mickey mouse for a photo op?

You know, I didn't vacation much as a kid - maybe three times to be exact and I was the same way. I remember being crushed that we didn't get to swim too much. I figure the first day, I'm going to make him go to MK for the dinner and then thanks to YouTube he has some idea of what the parks are. I have a plan, but I am going to let him run with it. I really loved there was one on YouTube where they are waiting in line and the little girl - maybe 2 yrs is playing with grass. So cute, so typical kid. Our lives are so rushed with two at home here. I want this one to be special, and if playing in the pool is special, so be it.

I do think I will be anal about the Bday dinner at CM though! But just because I think that will be something he LOVES. Maybe we can find time in between games of ring around the rosie...
