Looking for Civil War battlefield sites/parks/visitors centers. The more it has to offer, the better. This would be for our drive down. Also, anything having to do with the Civil War around Pigeon Forge and the Smoky Mtns NP? Thanks for your help!

Chickamagua in north Georgia is probably the largest battlefield site near I-95, there is also a smaller site right next to the interstate called Ringgold Gap but it is on the wrong side of the river so you have to get off north of it and cut over to US41 and get back on 75 south of the town. Chattanooga is a little bit of a detour and most of Lookout Mountain is a tourist attraction, don’t know how much is open now but TN seems to be loose on their Covid restrictions.

There are two major Civil War batter fields along I-75. One is mentioned above (Chickamagua and Chattanooga National Military Park) and the other is Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park in Georgia. Kennesaw Battlefield Park also allows you to visit Cheatham Hill and is part of the Atlanta Campaign.

Also, there were no campaigns through the mtns around Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge. Although there were no battlefield around that area, there are interesting little piece of history near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

It’s a detour off 75, but the cyclorama in Atlanta is worth the visit. Very interesting and always great presenters.
