Hi everyone,

We are so excited about the upcoming arrival of our grand-son!
I have decided to host a co-ed/ family friendly baby shower, and the guest list is at about 100.
I am looking for budget ideas for shower favors. Because it will be co-ed and children invited also, I have no idea what to do for favors that look nice, but won't cost me an arm and a leg.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

P.S. The theme is "Ship's Ahoy, it's a Boy!" and our colors are red, white & blue.

Congratulations on your new grandson!

I went to a co-ed shower that was similar to what you're describing. The favors were pretzel rods dipped in different colors of chocolate (some regular chocolate, some white chocolate colored pink or blue) and sprinkles. They were wrapped in cellophane and looked very nice, and tasted good too.
I'm all for favors that are consumable!

You could buy a lollipop mold and make cute little pops in red white and blue chocolate. Its cheaper than ordering them made and its fun to do.

I was going to suggest decorated sugar cookies, but this idea sounds even better. Easy, inexpensive, and super cute with red, white, and blue sprinkles. Maybe add a tag with an anchor or ship, thanking people for joining you to keep in theme.

Congrats on the new addition!

I just gave my cousin a baby shower. For the favors I bought microwave popcorn, put them in brown lunch sacks. Fold the top over and punched a hole in the middle of the fold then closed the top with a color ribbon in the party color. Then put a sticker on the front that said"Here's a treat for you to enjoy, ____________'s about to pop with a new bundle of joy! Thanks for helping us celebrate!"

They were cute, cheap and fast...and any that I had left over, I now have extra popcorn!

I wouldn't do any favors. They usually end up in the trash anyway. Focus on nice decorations and food. They matter more.

We have made pretzel rods for Christmas teacher/neighbor gifts.
I think they would be perfect, also kinda looking like a cigar.

My aunt did something with cheesecloth and starch making them into diapers that would sturdy to support candy inside. Everyone really liked them. I'll have to ask her where she found the instructions.

I completely agree with this. We did not do favors at both of my baby showers. Actually I have never attended a shower of any type that favors were given.

The Dollar Tree has small white fabric (cannot remember name of sheer fabric) that is made into small treat bags. You can put small suckers or candy and tie with colored ribbon.

Also, candy wrappers are fun. You can make them on the printer/computer at home and then just put over a small candy bar.

Plain sugar cookies in shape of baby feet with sugar sprinkles wrapped in cello wrap is fun too.

Candy buffets!!! Get a bunch of red, white, blue candy and put in glass bowls and jars and let people make their own goody bags.

There are alot of good ideas above:
chocolate lollipops
dipped pretzels
candy table...etc

I am a big edible favor person. Personally candles...frames what do you do with it. I throw a bridal shower for my sister. There were over 100 people there. it was rather large. We picked a cute mirror compact favor but I also made a desert table. I had cupcakes, cookies, choc lollipops, dipped pretzels and some other treats. We had a cake but this table was offered during desert time.

I would do something edible like a desert table. Everyone likes desert...I think...and is pretty inexpesive if you made yourself....

What about frosted sugar cookies in the shape of an anchor or other nautical item? you could even write the baby's name on them.

When I did a co-workers baby shower, I found very inexpensive plain votive holders (I think they came out to .25 each) and some inexpensive votives. Bought some ribbon and tied a little card to it that said, "A little candle for you to light, once the stork has made its flight. The flame will glow to celebrate,
Baby _______'s arrival date."

There are a few variations to it. I think all together each favor was well under a dollar and everyone seemed to like them.

I just went to a shower where they took the packaged rice crispy treats stuck a popcicle stick in dipped it in pink chocolate and pretty sprinkles, wrapped in cellophane with some curling ribbon and that was cute. I also love the idea of candies in glass jars and cute little tiny boxes to fill on your way out, it looks pretty and everybody likes candy:goodvibes

I agree with spending more on decorations. My friend had little picture frames and there were tons left. I like the idea of a food item like the lollipops, krispies, or pretzels. And there easy to make. You can get the stuff at your local craft store or even some dollar stores are great you can find ribbon cellophane alot there.

I've heard of people handing out miniature candies. Mini-M&Ms, sugar babies/daddies, etc.

Some sort of food is always best, especially if it's family friendly & coed. Guys aren't going to care about candles. :) (Are you doing one gift per family, or per person?)

For my baby shower, my sister made sugar cookies - we had a lot left over because no one was making sure that folks leaving got them. IMHO, favors are a waste of money and energy.

Unless it is food related, it really a waste. The last shower I went to had a candy buffet and little boxes for guests to put some candy in for a favor.
