Back about 15 years ago, I had a nice healthy weight and felt ok about myself. I am about 80 lbs heavier now and have pretty low self-esteem. I have noticed that this lack of confidence has hurt me in several areas....mainly areas concerning my job. I have a wonderful, kind husband and two fabulous children who are my rocks. I score big in that department. I have a wonderful extended family on both sides also. So no problem there. I blame my weight. Of course blaming it isn't helping it come off. What my question out there to anyone who can answer is - when you lost enough weight or got to your goal.....did you find yourself with restored confidence and self assurance? I sure miss that.

Hi...I have lost 76.5 pounds...not finished yet...I have been loosing it for the past six years...and yes I feel totally different about everything now! It's hard to explain because it was like I had to be comfortable with myself being at my highest weight before I could actually change my lifestyle...I know that sounds really strange but it was when I wasn't trying to hide how big I was that is when I was able to say to myself that I would have a much better life in many different ways if I was healthier...at this point I started to loose my weight...and now I feel so good about everything I do because when you accomplish something that takes so much strength you feel you can do anything.

I'm sure not everyone feels this way but I know when I finally loose my 91 pounds it will never go back on!!!

Best Wishes!

Wow. That's impressive and definitely inspiring. How have you done it?
I obvisouly had a not so good day at work and couldn't wait to get home and get on the disboards. You all are so supportive.

I've lost 102lbs so far and have more to go. I never lacked in self-confidence, so I don't know if I can help you much, But. Whenever I do something that I couldn't do before, WOW, it feels great. I rode every ride on my recent trip to UO/IOA/SW. I hated waiting in line before wondering if I would fit. At home I raced my 5yr and he said "I never knew you could run that fast." Things like that will help boost your self esteem. Everyone saying how great you look helps also. It is definately worth the health benefits to lose the weight, just don't expect confidence to come from a mirror or scale. If you do lose the weight that should give you the confidence to know you can do anything. Good Luck

I have lost 52 lbs, and have another 55 to go. I have absolutely noticed a huge change in my self confidence, and I would have said I didn't have any problems with myself at my highest weight! But I feel so different now. I take better care of myself, I am more outgoing, I enjoy life so much more. It does help that I have a lot more energy than I did before, but I think mainly it is due to just feeling better about myself, having the confidence to actually do something for myself, that makes me look and feel better.

That's incredible! I'm so happy for you. I can't get over how amazing it is that you have lost over 100 lbs.! :cheer2:

I think I might just hop on the treadmill tonight (if I can pull myself of these boards!!!).

I just re-read my first post (of this thread)....boy....I was having a really big pitty party . On to much more positive thinking :rolleyes1 ......

Thanks for your post. I'm going to go tell my DH about you :yay: .

My all time highest weight was 196 pounds. I was about 23 years old at the time and had no clue about how to eat healthy. I thought I could just exercise the weight off and not really worry about what I ate. Through trial and error I lost about 20 pounds and got into the 170s before my 24th birthday. I maintained that weight for about a year and then a friend asked me to be in her wedding party and I joined WW and I went from 176 to 154 in about 3 months. I stayed that weight for a few months and then another friend asked me to sign up for a 10K so I took up running and eventually over a few months I lost more weight and got to about 145 pounds. I was 26 and in the best shape of my life. My weight did yo-yo up and down by 20 pounds for a while after that (I'd gain to around 160 pounds and then get back in the 140s and then gain again, etc.)

I'm 37 years old now and weigh about 135. I've maintained this weight/size since 2003. I lift weights three times a week and run (interval training) 4 times a week (each session is 25 minutes long). I have my dream body. Back in my early 20s I would have never imagined looking like this. I use fitday to track my calories (protein, carbs, fat) every day. I eat 4-5 times a day. I weigh and measure every bit of food that I consume. My family thinks my eating habits are odd and people give me a hard time for not eating cake, cookies, junk food, etc. when we have family get togethers. I worked hard to get in shape and I feel great about myself.

I went from wearing size 18/20 to wearing a size 6. It didn't happen over night and I made alot of mistakes along the way, but now I know what works for me and I enjoy making healthy eating and fitness a priority. I look forward to every weekend because I love getting dressed up in all the great clothes I can fit into now. Friday and Saturday nights I can go out with my boyfriend and we enjoy drinks and a nice meal and we have a great time. Those two nights a week are my "eat what I want" nights and the rest of the week it is back to business.

You can do it! Anything is possible. There will be days when you feel like tossing in the towel but you just have to keep at it and think of the big picture. All your efforts count towards something and eventually you will reach your goal and look in the mirror and think, "Hey, I'm hot!" :) :thumbsup2

I'm still working on building muscle and losing fat. It is a GREAT challenge!

Wow. That is incredible! I like that you said you weigh and measure every bite. that is something I NEED to do! Esp. with 3 kids asking for food all the time....I tend to nibble or taste what they are having and then end up taking more bites than I need and don't count that nibbling well when I try to journal.

Did you do some kind of weight trainers diet? Or what are you doing? Looks like you work out a lot. that is something I need to work on too. I walk but I really need to add weights.

You look great!,

Thanks for your post. It's good to know that losing weight has changed the way you feel about yourself. I mean, I see those success stories on TV and I've read the articles in magazines, but to have someone answer me personally hits home much more. I took a 30 minute walk yesterday (in the misting rain:woohoo: ) and it felt pretty good. I'm going to the grocery today to pick up stuff for this week for work.

I had my second son three years ago and I have SLOWLY, but steadily lost several pounds. We have taken 3 trips to the World since he was born and each time I've been, I weighed less each time. We're going next month again and I would love to take off more so that I can keep up that trend. I know I can do it. My biggest problem is keeping healthy options around me. I like about every kind of food so I'm not picky. I'll eat the fruit and veggies if they are in my house. I would say that is probably my biggest challenge - is keeping up the grocery shopping to keep the fresh stuff available to just "grab" when I'm in a hurry.

The love this WISH forum because not only are people generally huge Disney fans, they are either trying to maintain or work toward a healthier lifestyle.

Thanks a bunch because the 50+ category can be pretty overwhelming at times!

Thanks for your post. I'm impressed! I like how you mentioned that your weight loss was over a period of time. I would love to wake up tomorrow morning in the body I had when I was 21, but ....well....you know...

I plan on incorporating small weights into my treadmill routine so that when this 80 lbs comes off, hopefully my skin won't be hanging  . I used to go to Curves, until they closed the one by me. I really like the 30 second, brainless moving in a circle kind of thing. I really miss it.

Well keep up the good work - I would love to have my arms like yours so I could wear sleeveless shirts with confidence!!

Take care....

I was thinking that I want that little tush! I don't think I have ever had one, even when I was slim!
