We have tried the ususal Amazon and Ebay, but are looking for others. My husband is an avid reader who is always looking for new book. He prefers hard cover to papperback and is not ready for the kindle route yet.

Any suggetions would be great...
thanks

It's not used but you can find some deals on brand-new "slightly imperfect" books if you're into Christian books (fiction & non-fiction) through www.christianbook.com (Christian Book Distributors). I scored 5 books for $23 (which included about $6 shipping). When they said "slightly imperfect" it's basically a slightly bent corner or something like that -- when mine arrived they looked almost perfect to me.

Alibris is another place for used books and Barnes and Nobel and Borders also sell used books. Be aware that many of the used book sellers sell the same book at all the venues.

very cheap and great quality. free shipping over $20. can't bet it, we have used them many times.

Another option is Paperback Book Swap: http://www.paperbackswap.com/home.php . Each paperback book "costs" 1 credit and hardcovers cost 2 credits. You start out with 2 credits to spend and you receive credits every time you send out a book to someone else. It's really a great service for people who don't live near used book stores.

I agree, I love paperbackswap.com. I have saved a ton swapping instead of buying, plus gotten rid of a lot of books that were just taking up space.

But I just wanted to add that hardcovers are only one credit, the same as paperbacks. Maybe the pp was thinking of audiobooks?

We buy nearly all of our books at the Library book sale. If your library doesn't do them, I suggest finding the best libraries in your area. You don't have to be a member to purchase at the book sales. See when each library is having their sales and go and buy to your heart's content.:thumbsup2

Please take a look at betterworldbooks.com. Free shipping in the USA. A portion of every purchase goes to fund worldwide literacy. A great cause.. check out their story!!

I often buy a whole box of books under 5.00 at local garage sales.

A couple of yrs ago 1 of the ladies in my dentist office asked what i was reading I told she was wanting to read the book. We started trading box of books for box of books when I go in every 6 months. I mark my books with an x she marks hers with an O so that we don't keep trading books we have both already read.

I'm going to check out these used book sites tho as I am moving an my book trading isn't going to work any more an not going to know the area I moving to well enough to go to many garage sales.

I am a voracious reader. I use paperbackswap.com, the library, and betterworldbooks.com when I am not buying from half.com or buying books for my Kindle at amazon.com.

Paperbackswap's name is misleading as you can get hardbacks as well as paperbacks. It is hard to get some of the most popular titles at paperbackswap. You have to put your name on a wish list and as they come open they send them in order of people wishing. I have some books I have been waiting for almost a year for.

I did not like booksfree.com as the shipping took far too long out on the west coast. This is really just an online library. Good for those with no libraries around. I used it when I had my first baby and couldn't get out much.

There are really so many options

My second job has a website www.gohastings.com We buy TONS of used product and it's listed on the website. Don't know what shipping is though..

Bookcloseouts.com has new closeout books for good prices. All them them get marked with a remainder mark.
