How's the Riverwalk for dinner on a Sunday evening/night in the 6-ish / 7-ish timeframe?

Very busy. Where on the Riverwalk? You need to plan to eat either earlier or later. Trust me, I've tried eating on the River Walk around this time. Didn't work well.

Where were you thinking of eating?

Don't know yet. We're planning on going to Schlitterbahn for the day, and Schlitterbahn closes at 6, so probably best case, we'd really be down there in the 7-7:30 range. But these friends I'm going with have never been on the Riverwalk so we'd all really like to go see it, and I *love* the Riverwalk. Later we can do if later is safe?

The River Walk area is very well patroled by police. I have been numerous times and have never felt unsafe at all.

If you like BBQ you should try The County Line.... It's the very best BBQ there is and always a fun place to visit. There is also a Dualing Piano bar Howl at the Moon... lots of fun!

I agree with Robin, the Riverwalk is very safe, even in the middle of the night. I've always felt secure there.

I love the Riverwalk, especially at night, it has a magical quality about it :)

Nice to eat at, but watch out for the drunks about midnight.....:)

Rajah,
The Riverwalk is very safe and fun at night. County Line is good, but my DH and I fell in love with a place called Boudro's, a Texas bistro with unbelievable food and great margaritas. We ended up going back 3 times in one visit, with no reservations, and dragged guests with us. Everyone loved it! You can easily identify it by its umbrellas, which sort of look like hats. After I came back, I noticed it was the only restaurant listed in Gourmet Magazine for San Antonio.

Have a great trip.

Thanks for the tip!!

It certainly does! Also, you should check out the Alamo late at night when there aren't many people around. You can't go in, but it's really cool to view it without crowds around it or traffic in the streets.
