I have searched but there are a ton of variations on what looks like a pretty simple recipe, with lopsided reviews - too buttery, too peanut buttery, not peanut buttery enough, too greasy, can't spread, etc. :rotfl:

Looking for one that is fluffy, not greasy, is not sickeningly sweet, and just tastes good, that doesn't contain cream cheese. Can pipe or spread, just let me know what works best with consistency.

Any one have a recipe they have used for the perfect pb frosting?

You brought back childhood memories! My mom made great pb frosting but I can't remember what she put it on.

I'm going to call her tomorrow and see if she remembers her recipe.

Have you tried looking at allrecipes.com? Usually the reviewers come up with a consensus on how to fix all the problems you mentioned by saying things like, "Only used 2 tablespoons sugar as 3 was way too sweet." Then a second & third person chimes in with, "Yes, I only used 2 tablespoons sugar as recommended by a previous person and the frosting was perfect." :thumbsup2

I don't care for peanut butter myself, but this is a very popular recipe of my grandma's. Everyone in our family loves it , except me!

Peanut Butter Cake
Grandma Anna

1C Sugar
¼ C Butter
¼ C Peanut Butter
1 C Sour Milk or Buttermilk
1 ½ C Flour
1 Egg
1 tsp Baking Soda

Mix all ingredients. Put in greased and floured pan. Bake in 350 degree oven until cake pulls away from sides of pan and toothpick comes out clean.

Peanut Butter Icing
Grandma Anna

1 ½ C Powdered Sugar
½ C Peanut Butter
1 T Hot Water
1tsp Butter
2 T cream
1tsp Vanilla

Mix all ingredients.

I make peanut butter icing, but I don't have a tried and true written down recipe. Here's what I do:

A box of 10X sugar

about 2 or 3 Tbsp of butter at room temp

about 1/3 c. to 1/2 c. of peanut butter (I just use a big serving spoon and get a huge scoop of pb out of the jar)

about 1 tsp of vanilla

I use the handmixer to mix the above ingredients together until it's crumbly. Then I start adding milk - a little at a time - until it reaches the consistency I want. If you go overboard on the milk, just add some extra 10X sugar. I've found if I beat it for a few minutes at a higher speed that the icing does get a little bit fluffier.

Everyone who eats it loves it. I've put it on devil's food cake and brownies, and it's equally delicious on both!

Just made PB frosting tonight. So good...

1/2 C. Butter
1 1/4 C. PB
1 1/2 C. Confectioners Sugar
3 Tbs. Heavy Whipping Cream

Blend softened butter and peanut butter until you can no longer see PB. Add sugar and blend well. Add whipping cream and mix on 6 (stand mixer) for 3-4 minutes.

Came out perfect!

I've never had peanut butter frosting but sounds yum!!!

I just found out recently that my sister made her son a chocolate birthday cake with peanut butter frosting and she said it tasted just like a Funny Bone. MMMMMM
