I am looking for a basic treadmill that won't break the bank but is of decent quality. Any suggestions? It does not have to have lots of bells and whistles. How about the space savers? Do they work just as well? Thanks!

Hi poohbear2,

I don't know anything about space saver treadmills, but I would advise that you don't get a motor smaller than 2 horsepower and get the widest belt you can find. My first one had a very narrow belt and I found that I would kind of "float" from side to side and sometimes I would step off on the belt and on to the rail.

We have a NordicTrak treadmill and we love it. It does have a lot of the "bells and whistles" but we got it at a great discount at Sears when they were discontinuing this particular model.

Muffin is right, make sure you don't buy something that you will be unhappy with when you get it home. A decent motor and wide belt do make a lot of difference, especially if it will be used a lot.

Check the newspaper, sometimes people sell their very good quality treadmills at a decent price because they no longer want them. Good luck!

I second the NordicTrack. We have a spacesaver and love it.
DH and DS and I use it. I got it at Sears. You can get some good deals of them if they are the discontinued model. They come out with new ones all the time so they are always discontinuing some great models. We paid $729. It's a lot better built than the Proform we had previously.

I've got one here you can have:D

It's just sitting around collecting dust :)

So, come on down & grab it;) :Pinkbounc :bounce:

OOPS! I was going to say how much we like our Proform until I saw Lynn CC's post! :)
We got ours at Sears as a year-end close out deal. I think we paid $500-$600 or so. It folds up and unless you have a room to devote to it, I'd be sure to buy a space saver.
Just be sure to get one with a motor. Our old neighbor bought a REALLY cheap one from an infomercial. ("But Bruce Jenner endorsed it." ) Anyway you had to do ALL the work and it was a piece of junk.:p
Beware though- After using ours for a couple of months in our unfinished basement we decided we HAD to finish the basement. Needless to say that became a very expensive treadmill. But the basement does look nice!:)
