Looking for a new washing machine today and need help!

I don't have a recommendation of what to get, but don't buy the one I have! LOL I have a Maytag energy efficient one, and it's horrible. It hardly uses any water and thus I don't feel it cleans my clothes! I can not get any stains out. I have opened it mid cycle to try to investigate the problem and there was literally no water in there! All I saw were my soapy clothes. So watch the energy efficient ones because I don't think some use enough water.

I just bought a Whirlpool front loader and I love it. It wasn't the top of the line, it was one below. I love it. My clothes come clean and I got one with steam in the washer and the dryer. The steam in the washer has done a fabulous job taking out stains.

I talked to the service department in the store I bought the set from. They told me they sometime have trouble getting parts from LG since they are from Korea. My Whirlpool was made in the USA,

My research also pointed me to a Speed Queen. Mine is a top loader, replacing my front loader, but I really like it.

I've searched some Speed Queen dealers in my area and I am going to pay a visit to the store. Their website is showing 3 top loaders in the 800-900 price range for the washer.

The front loaders were double the price. Top loaders use about 31 gallons and front loaders use 13 plus gallons. I'm thinking I can buy a lot of water for $1k - $1.2K.

Does anyone know if residential Speed Queen stores hold sales on Speed Queens? I have a little time and could wait to purchase.

Another thing - the top loaders had a higher cubic feet - 3.3 and the front loaders were 2.7 I think (without going back to the website). Is this just to account for the use of more water, or do top loaders just wash a larger load each time?

I would think you could dicker a bit. I want to say when I bought mine, I hemmed and hawed a bit on the price and they came down. Most of them are sold at Mom & Pop appliance stores and there will be some room on that price.

You won't be sorry. We have had ours at least three years and we never give it a thought. Prior to that we went through two machines in three years. This is one purchase I don't expect to be making for a verra long time! (phrase for the benefit of all who are watching the outlander, haha!)

I bought an Electrolux pair five years ago. My washer and dryer hook up are backwards and Electrolux was the only brand at the time to let you put the door on either side. I haven't had any problems with it.

The best recommendation I can give you is to go to a Sears Outlet and buy a scratch and dent pair. I saved about $1200 dollars. It is in my laundry room, so who cares.

Do you know if Sears has Speed Queen? I don't mind scratch and dent in my basement in the least.

The Electrolux is pretty pricey - at least the ones I saw online. I need a washer for 3-4 loads a week. I just don't want a piece of plastic and a constant stream of repairmen.

Thanks for the hint! I really hadn't thought of trying to talk the price down. Lately my shopping skills include walking in with credit card drawn and ready to pay whatever is asked.

We bought a pair of Kenmore front loaders from Sears during Black Friday last year ($899 for the pair) and have been completely happy with them so far. We do keep the washer door and soap dispenser drawer open when not in use so they can dry completely.

The most reliable brand we've ever owned was Kenmore - bought a stack set (single piece, where the dryer is over the washer) as a stratch n' dent at the Sears Outlet and it worked perfectly for us for years. We left it behind when we moved out of state in the hopes that it would help us rent out the house we were leaving.

To replace it, we first bought a Maytag set, but BOTH the washer and dryer started having minor issues within the 30-day money-back guarantee - so back they went!

We then bought a GE set, which has been "eh" :confused3. The washer has both manual and automatic sensor settings for the water level, and if you let it fill based on the sensor, the clothes don't really seem to get clean. So I leave it on the manual settings. Both the washer and the dryer are loud and squeaky when operating, and that started just a few months into our time owning them. We've had them about 4 years now.

If I had to buy another set today, I'd probably hit the Sears Outlet again and look for a Kenmore scratch-and-dent set.

Around here, they were only sold by locally owned appliance dealers. Sears, Bestbuy, etc did not have them, either in store on online.
