How do you research what fund to start??

You need to decide if you want to manage the IRA yourself, or have an investment advisor do it for you. Morningstar is a great place to start IF you know what fund or family of funds you want. If not, speak to someone at a bank, or a mutual fund company, or at a brokerage house. All should be happy to help you.

Consider an index fund. They generally do just as good or better as a managed fund. Vanguard has good web site. Check there.
