Ok so I want to surprise my husband with something when we go to WDW next April, we are going with my parents and I know he is *less than thrilled* about the trip as a whole, so I am hoping to plan an activity that he will really enjoy, he likes food and beer and the beach and a lot of things really, so does anyone have any suggestions for an activity away from the parks that he might enjoy?

we have done quite a few tours and such, but my dh's all time favorite activity in WDW was doing the richard petty race car (he did the rookie experience, where he drove the car himself). he said it was one of the most thrilling times of his life
he does enjoy the EPCOT segway tour also, but the petty experience is something he will never forget (and probably never get to do again, at that price;))

fishing excursion, parasailing, water mice. Sitting at the pool with a cold one...

I agree with two items on this list "Bass fishing excursion" & "Sitting at the pool with a cold one" Those are both downtime for a guy

Also let him and your father just wander off and have a beer and some guy time

Richard Petty Nascar ride along experience is nice

Does he play golf? Multiple great courses at WDW or just off property.
Does he play tennis? Lots of courts at the resorts.
What about catching a pre-season baseball game, if they are playing at the time you are going to be there? You can do that at the ESPN Sports complex or over in Kissimmee.
How about sending FiL and DH over to the ESPN Club at BWV for a few hours of catching game(s) and a cold one?
Does he enjoy concerts? If so, check on who is playing at the House of Blues.

If he likes Fishing, the Bass Fishing Excursions are very fun. If you do decide to book one, I suggest having him fish (and get picked up) at the Epcot Resorts (Crescent Lake). I did this one with a friend and we ended up going into the International Lagoon. I can now saw that I have caught fish in Japan and Italy (and have the countries in the backgrounds of the photos to prove it). :)

Thanks for the ideas! They are great. I think his biggest worry is that tge parks will be crowded but there is plenty he :rolleyes1can go do outside the parks

Send him to Epcot to the World Showcase with a mission of drinking around the countries - that should keep him occupied! Or the Boardwalk area has plenty of places to grab a cold one, or a game at ESPN zone.
