I have a Kodak easy share but I really need to update for some better pictures. I really noticed after our recent trip that I want distant things to look better then they are.

What is a good camera with out breaking the bank??
I am not sure if i need to look at Zoom alone or Mega Pixels alone or both?

I tried looking around but seem to get more mixed up as I look.

Anyone know of a camera that is fairly easy to use and not costing a ton?

Head over to the photography board - you'll get much better results and answers. :)

It would help to know a price range and what style of camera you want - easy point and shoot or a more advanced dSLR, etc.

We had the Kodak dx and we got a new camera for our Oct. trip and we love it. We stayed with Kodak and got the new M883. Again, I love it.The digital stablization is great. My night shots have improved dramitically and did not even need to use flash for anything. I did get another battery just to make it through the day.We did the photopass at the GF and some of my shots were just as good.Got mine off at the Kodak store and if you watch they will have 20% off acc. and lots of other good deals. PM me with you e-mail address if you want to look at some of our pix. Just bought my mom the m553 (i think) and the only difference if 1 mega pixel and the iso does not go up as high. On my camera I have not even used that setting.

I have a panasonic dmc-fz7 and I just LOVE it.

Here is what I love about it...

it has 12x zoom.
Image stabilization
lightweight
easy to use, right out of the box.. but has the ability to do more complex stuff.
movies.. I don't carry a camcorder, but rather take small movies while photographing
6 megapixels. This isn't top of the line anymore, but it is plenty for me.
good battery life: lasts one full day of vacationing. lots of photos and movies.

dislikes:
a bit large.

It has a very good lens on it. It takes nice photos. It runs about $250, I believe.

good luck with your decision!

I'm looking at new cameras right now. Have it narrowed down to either the Kodak Easy Share M753 (7mp) or M853 (8mp) OR the Fuji Finepix S700. Both are around $150. The Kodak's are smaller and allow for on camera editing of videos, the Fuji is bigger like an SLR but has more ability to play with the the pics and a higher optical zoom. Having trouble deciding!

I was looking into the Kodak camera's for DH and the M753 has the exact same thing as the M853 except for 1MP and IMHO you do not need the extra MP unless you plan on having your pictures turned into wall posters. The
M753 is less expensive as well. If you want a side by side comparison go to Walmart website and compare them side by side. Oh yeah, I have always owned Kodak cameras and love them and all the pictures they have taken.

HTH,
Angela

I am hoping to keep it around 250 but no more then 300 $ if can.
I want to be able to take pictures that are far away like at a concert ( Hannah Montana;) ) At my sons football games etc as well as regualr pictures. I know they will never be 8X10 or larger

I don't know how high of a Mega Pixel to get or zoom??? I like my Kodak but as open to any good brand

You might check out www.cameraworld.com. They are a reputable online seller. They have user reviews for most all of their camera's so at least you can get a good idea of what others think of a particular model.

We are looking for a DSLR now, it will be our first. But OUCH at the price tag!

I would say the Canon S3 if you look on the photography board there is a thread about this camera.
They have the S5 to but I am going to order the S3 online and I think I found it for like 269.00. I was amazed at the shots from this camera.

I've got the Canon SD750 & cannot say enough good things about it. It has a good zoom, although the more you zoom, the worse picture quality is with any camera. I've gotten some great low light shots, and brilliant day time shots as well. And it fits in a pocket.

Steph,

I would have to agree, we went to DL last month and I did research and ended up buying the Canon S5 IS and I LOVE IT!! Shot some nice pics w/out a flash in some of the shows, they were great. I even took video of the parade and DH and kids on the tea cups. I am super glad I purchased this camera. It has a great zoom and tons of options. I must admit there are a lot of things to learn, but I purchased it ahead of time and just played with it. IM me if you would like to see some sample photos.
Also, look online. I got mine for $329. I know that Circuit City will match their online prices in the store and WalMart even sells it. I believe Target (or someone in this Sunday's adds) has it on sale.

hello
My wife a a great camera an all in 1 a Canon Power Shot Pro Series S5 IS 8.0MP Digital Camera with 12x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom. it is an awesome camera. she loves it and i love it too.
8.0-mega pixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 16 x 22-inch prints which is more than adequate for personal photographs.
hope this helps

Canon PowerShot 8.0MP ~$325

-has 12x zoom
-this is the best camera short of buying a SLR
