we want a quality piece of furniture-not necessarily Pennsylvania House but something made of real wood with drawers that function. Ideas?

I got DS20 one for his apartment at Office Depot. It was very nice and matched his other furniture well. I thought it was a reasonable price too.

Sadly, real wood furniture is hard to come by lately. It seems like most stuff is particle board, MDF, veneer, etc.

Do you have an unfinished furniture store near you? That type of stuff is always solid wood. If you don't mind a weekend project of either painting or staining it, that might be the way to go.

edited to add: If you can find Amish made furniture, that will be solid wood as well.

I couldn't find one that I liked without paying thousands! So, I started haunting Craig's list and found a great vintage teacher's desk for $50. Very pottery barn looking, but the pottery barn stuff is all made of compressed wood chips. This thins is sturdy and looks great!

You have to filter through some crazy stuff, but I'm having a blast with CL right now. Currently looking for some great furniture to refinish for my youngest daughter's room.

My husband said we'd likely need to do this. there is a huge difference in quality and price with nothing in the middle. thanks!

I have one I have been trying to sell, I'm not sure that it is real wood, but it is really nice and sturdy and I can't seem to get rid of it. We didn't pay alot for it and I don't want alot for it, but no one seems interested. It came from Walmart in early 2007, I just need the room for other things.
