one was a frame place that let you try out frames/mats virtually..anyone remember that?

the second is i thought there was someway to view raw files in windows explorer as thumbnails ( mine only opens the jpg or tiff as thumbnails, not the raw unless i download to the photoshop catalog and i 'd rather not do that due to my lack of space). not sure it that was a program or technique or what

thanks to anyone who has a better memory than me or was smart enough to bookmark them:rotfl:

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I believe you can upload images to be viewed w/ the mats/frames for sale here: http://www.americanframe.com/catalog/clearance.html?i=010108-192

For the Windows RAW viewer, I went to Microsoft's website and searched for "raw image viewer" or something to that effect and downloaded it. I don't know if it's just my system or not, but it is annoyingly slow. Come to think of it though, I thought I was always able to view thumbnails of my RAW image files but Windows couldn't show a preview. This enables me to see a preview, and that's the part that is slow, slow, slow to load.

I haven't found anything in Windows that enables me to see previews of my RAW files when I am in the folder view in My Pictures or whatever folder I am looking in. I use "View Thumbnails" as my view and the RAW files just look like this:

rawicon.jpg

I just haven't figured out how to get them to view properly. I think they do work in Vista, but I'm not sure. I can't get them in XP though. I tried dwonloading the .Net thingy that may have been the problem but got lots of errors. The Windows Raw viewer does work, but still doesn't show me the thumbnails. This is particularly annoying because when I go out and shoot 150 pictures, I HAVE to use RAW+JPG in order to know which picture is which for post processing. It is either that or open each picture indiviually. I hope that someone on here has a good fix for this as I just haven't found one yet...

For frames, check out www.picturesframes.com

You can upload photos and check them out in different frame/ mat combinations that you define. There are also some useful reference guides on framing and matting.

that is exactly what i get( downloaded the viewer) it said you might need to download wia...course i can't find any driver/download titled wia and a search on canon did no good...i'm in the same boat, i guess i'll have to just keep pointing and clicking till i open the right one...,pain with a bunch of photos i took long ago and have no idea what they are:confused3

To view thumbnails of certain RAW files (it does not cover all formats) in Windows XP, you need this. Know that you must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed. The .NET component will be installed if your don't have it already if you download the larger setup file. Otherwise, you need to ensure .NET framework 1.1 is installed or it won't work. Use the Microsoft Updates (or Windows Update) application that came with Windows to install any upgrades to Windows XP.

And, yes, this is all built-in to Vista, at least the Home Premium and Ultimate versions. Not sure about Basic or some of the other strains.

Nope, that never works for me. I don't understand why. It should work. I don't know if it doesn't recognize the Canon 30D RAW files or what the problem is. It won't even recognize then when I dbl click them to view in the RAW viewer that it installs. I just don't get it. :confused3

Hmmm, I don't have an XP machine anymore, so can't help. But, it used to work for me when I did. Sorry. BTW: I use the 30D also, as you probably already know.

Yeah, that is what I thought. That's why I thought it was strange that it wouldn't work. This XP machine doesn't work like the others that I have seen anyways. As far as I know it has all of the updates that the others have but it just doesn't work for me.

I have an XP machine that is fully up to date and I can't get the RAW viewer to install. I've tried about a dozen times.

I don't know about the raw files viewer but this is the website that I bookmarked for viewing pictures with a matt.... http://www.matshop.com/matomatic/ I hope that helps!

it worked for me( hooray!!!) so maybe it is the camera.

The Canon D30 and D60 are old versions of the 40D. The series started with the D30 (3 megapixels, $3,000) in 2000. The D60 (6 megapixels, $2,200) in 2002. The 10D followed in 2003, the 20D in 2004, the 30D in 2006, and the 40D in 2007. I imagine that the 50D will come out in the spring of 2009 with a street price of just over $1,000.

I bought a D60 back in 2002 about a month after they came out.
