Looking at pics from childhood visits-- NO CROWDS!

When I was a kid, my family went to disney for 10 days at the end of August every year. I was looking at an old photo album last night from our 1989 trip with my sister, and there were NO CROWDS in the pictures. In fact, I don't remember there being crazy crowds as a kid. I had a picture of Main street and a picture of the castle in the noon day sun, and there were practically no people!

What's up with that? Have crowds gotten bigger in the past decade? Or were these pictures just a fluke?

We went on a trip in early October 3 years ago. There were NO crowds during the first couple of days of our trip. We have pictures where we are the only 3 people on the bus. I have a picture of DD standing in Adventureland and there are NO people in the background. We were the only people on POC and the Magic Carpet ride. I am going to try and post these pictures.

Since your visit, Disney has added THOUSANDS of rooms: The Animal Kingdom Lodge, The Wilderness Lodge, Coronado Springs, The All Stars, The Pop Century, The Board Walk, the Swan & Dolphin, the Beach Club/Yacht Club, Saratoga Springs...

Anyway: all these places give guests 'early entry' privileges, and that has significantly impacted crowd levels in the theme parks.

There's also much more to do now, with the water parks, Downtown Disney, and the Animal Kingdom now added to the mix.

I don't think your pictures were a fluke! It really was less crowded then!

We went a couple of times in the '70s around the 4th of July and I do remember the crowds. My most vivid memory is leaving the park at midnight and my dad telling us the next morning that it was 2:00am before we got out of the parking lot!!

I remember going to MK and Epcot in mid 80's during easter and it certainly WAS crowded.....
