So I've been looking at various apartments to check out in the next week or so in Florida. I need to be on the first floor due to a disability. Problem is you have to pay extra for a first floor apartment. I don't even have an option to be on a higher floor because there are no elevators. Very frustrating~

The issue I face when looking at apartments in Florida is that something seems PERFECT, then you go to apartmentratings.com and read past tennants experiences and find out the place is a dump :(

Do you know a realtor down there? There are a LOT of houses on the market there, from what I hear, you might be able to rent a house vs an apt and have more luck getting one level living.

Wow, when we have looked for apartments here (for my daughter) the first floor apartments are LESS than the higher floors! They consider them more secure and charge more!

Same with Southern CA!! DH & I wanted a top floor apt and had to pay extra. I just did not think I would like someone walking above my head all the time. AND we are on the 3rd and top floor and there are no elevators here and my complex is pretty new...5yo. I asked so many people why there are no elevators and no one could answer me. Hmmm.

Florida is struggling with this economy....have you considered a single home to rent as another poster suggested? That might be an awesome option.

Phors, did you sell your home?

I looked up a place I rented at for a year that we loved. Never had any issues. I was so confused reading some of the reviews because they were so opposite of our experience. So I'll still read them but I don't put all my weight in them, unless of course they are all bad.

I'm going to check into that as well.

2nd floors get the best deals actually.

Nope still haven't sold. A lease option possibility has popped up that seems promising though.
