I consider Playboy soft porn. Not particularly offensive but truly not what I'd want my dd to be doing. And if I have a dil I'd consider her like my dd so it would bother me a bit. Dr. Phil has nothing to do with this. The only thing about this is he's the son of a man who is public on his stance in things like this. But he also talks about letting your adult children make their own lives. I just think in their family it would be a bit of an issue. As it would in my home. Not that I couldn't love a girl like that or welcome her into my home. Just that that choice would be tough for me to ignore. I would have to get over it but it would be tough.I would think of my DIL as the future mother of my grand kids. And I would think of the values I'd want them raised with.

I don't think of Dr. Phil as anti-porn. I think he clearly states that whatever works for YOU!

My guess is that they are thrilled. They love and respect their sons very much. Jay is no dummy, so I am sure she is a great gal.

Dr. Phil is no saint himself, but none of us are. I actually like much of the advice that he gives, but he picks and chooses what he reveals about his own life. While he does speak quite a bit about his own family's circumstances when he gives advice on his show, he never mentions his own divorce. He also was a bit of a control freak and a little chauvinstic in his younger days.

I completely agree with this statement. I don't see what the big deal is His son made a decision on his future wife - HIS decision. Posing in Playboy doesn't automatically make you a "bad" person. Who knows maybe they did it to put themselves through college or just for fun -either way - totally their decision.

Dr. Phil is VEHEMENTLY against porn, but somehow his kid goes and gets engaged to a porn star.

So, how valuable is his "Family First" teaching? I'm sorry, but if I was a mom to a son and he brought home a girl that's a porn star and said, hey, this person WHO MAKES GROSSLY BAD CHOICES in life is about to become my wife.

Very few, if any, Playboy models are "porn stars". Regardless if how you feel about Playboy, they aren't porn stars, by definition.

The Playboy thing doesn't bother me terribly - but it does surprise me that he dumped his girlfriend of MANY years in favor of Erica the Brainiac Triplet. Kids will do their own thing once they grow up no matter how they were raised. My aunt was recently telling me how different her three sons turned out even though they were all raised with the same rules. You can only do your best but you never really know what they'll do.

I am sorry but Dr. Phil has had his books/shows etc. all about Family First, Family Values, etc. and I think that most people would not think that getitng engaged to a Playmate really meshes with Family Values. Do I think that Playboy is horrible? No! My DH's subscription is in my name to get the MyPoints!

I love Dr. Phil and his show but this is a definate disappointment for me. I realize that as a parent you cannot say who your child would marry, but to me Dr. Phil is saying I am against Porn, you need to have a close relationship with your children, your children need to have respect for the opposite sex, etc. but with this engagment something is obviously wrong!
