Look what Airtran gave us yesterday at MCO!!

Okay, so let me see if I got this right. If you get offered this and take it on the way home, our luggage would go home as scheduled and the airline would hold it until we get home the next day?

sounds nice doesn't it?

OP here. Yes, that is what happens. I started another threAd today about this very situation, and how important it is to carefully pack your carry on!! I listed all the essentials to have with you, most importantly, the cell phone charger and extra undies! :)

Thanks, Jillpie. I'll be sure to pack carefully. It would be wonderful since my dd just married a marine and they're going to be moved this summer but we don't know where.

We've managed to snag a bump a number of times, twice including hotel and once also including meals. When possible, I try to have flexibility so I can accept if available. We also ask to be put on the volunteer list at check-in. That has worked a couple times. We're flying to Las Vegas in a couple weeks and our return flight has been sold out for some time. So in advance I made sure I have the flexibility to stay an extra day.

We also flew home Saturday from Orlando to Manchester, NH on Southwest. They needed 6 people to give up their seats as the flight was oversold. They offered a $200 voucher per person in addition to a refund of what you paid for the flight, plus an overnight in a hotel as the next available flight was the next day. We had our 4 and 6 year olds with us so we didn't take it, but it was tempting. :rotfl:

Yes, I think from now on I'll find out ahead of time whether our flight is sold out, and then be prepared accordingly. It was fun!

We did this also. But be careful. The vouchers could not be used for any flights we tried to get. Even 6 months out, nothing, nothing, nothing. In fact, I asked what IS available to any destination...NOTHING. We did have a nice meal. As for our luggage, a message was sent immediately and our bags went out on the next flight with us.

I won't do it again. I was so excited, and then so disappointed.

It looks like our flight home in May may be close to being sold out - all that shows up for ticketing is business class. As we have grandkids that are in different states, we are so hope the overbooking fairies are good to us!!!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for our trip at the end of the month. Wouldn't really work for us going out there, but DH is staying a few extra days in Orlando for a conference while the kids and I come back, so an extra night there wouldn't make any difference to us. I'd jump on it in a heartbeat!

OP back again. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience trying to book! I actually had alot of luck today ( and it's nice cuz it's my 50th birthday!). I thought it would be great to go visit my DS at Disneyworld in Nov, as he will be doing a professional internship there, at DHS. So I called DVC and AKL had one value studio left for the first week, and Airtran had comp ticket seats available for that week. So I'm going back! But this time solo, I've never flown alone before or stayed in a hotel by myself. But my DH has to stay home with our other son. Anyway, now I just have to pay for my food bill and that's it, not bad, ha?
