Look like I have a dicision to make..UPDATE page 3

All I can say is that I lived in Memphis, loved it while I was there, but looking back I won't live there again.

There are a lot of reasons, but I won't go into them here. However, my overall feeling is that the economy in Orlando is probably a little better than Memphis which means overall I would think there are more opportunities in Orlando.

Plus you have to figure a move would cost you at least a thousand dollars that you are out! I have done the lateral move once with no reimbursement (For "love") and won't do it again.

OK - someone said it. I didn't want to say it, but it IS important. If they are willing to let you go from Orlando is it a strong hint that your joh in Orlando may be in jeopardy? In today's market who knows. I would try to check into that as much as possible.

The job here is safe. We are starting a new operation in Memphis and they want people familiar wuth the system to be there. Moving from within the company is the only way to make sure those people are in place. They know I am from that area and that is why they they want to approach me. If I decline the offer it won't effect my postion here at all. Our department within the company is all but immune to lay offs and or cut backs.

It's expensive to move and if the company isn't willing to pay for the relocation and there are no reprecussions by declining -- I'd stay put!!

However, I agree that you need to do a sheet listing the pros and cons ... this usually makes a decision much easier.

Good luck!

Tony, I know how much you enjoy the weather in Orlando - not to mention the opportunity to see many DIS friends when they come to town. I'd say your quality of life in Orlando is probably better than it would be in Memphis. Unless you feel a real NEED to be closer to your family, I would personally stay put.

You'll be fine as long as you follow your heart, not the $. It's your life, do what makes you and your immediate family the happiest. Good luck, no matter what you decide. :)

You would miss us all to much.......seriously......only do what is good for TONY and no one else.....

I'd have a hard time leaving Orlando if I was you, I remember how excited you were when you moved there!!:D

No Relocation Expenses? Lateral Move?

Unless you really want to be near your family...

NO WAY.

Tony, being by family is nice, but you have to do what makes YOU happy.

TVT, I'm with vickybaby the whole way. Unless you have some burning desire to move back to be near your family.

NO WAY

Good luck with whatever you decide. :D

Stay in Orlando dude. . . and get your family to move down there. . ;) :) :)

Thats some dilema (did I even spell that right...lol) you have Tony.

I know that you LOVE it here in Orlando...being able to meet all the DIS people when theyre in town, being able to hit the golf courses when you want a great game of golf, being able to go over to WdW when youre in the mood to see Mickey or if its Christmas, Santa Goofy ;)

Seriously...do you really want to move, again?!?
Im not helpin' with your decision...Im sorry...:( Just cant imagine you leavin' Fl...!!!

...I agree with Willy, get your family to move down here to Fl!!!...

Just keep us posted on whatever you decide to do...!!!

I got a call yesterday from the head of HR for the Tennessee region. It was "getting to know you " kind of call. The opening that I am being considered for will take place sometime in March. I sent her a copy of my resume and we will talk again in March.

I didn't promise anything to her nor did she to me..Only that we would talk again when the time came. It will be a lateral move for me with no increase in salary and I would pay moving expenses out of my pocket. Lots of things will need to be though about before now and March. I'll probably fly to Memphis for a couple days and talk to the family there. If it weren't for the fact all of my family is in memphis it would be a no-brainer...I would stay put. BUT...family is important to me...So......we'll just have to wait and see.....

Hi Tony! Need anyone to house sit for you in Orlando? :teeth:

Good luck Tony... hope you can make the decision that will make you the happiest :)

Good luck in the decision. THe lateral move with no pay increase and moving expenses out of pocket would bother me.
