More than 150 "blink and ya Miss it" residents unanimously voted to support legislation to suspend a state landfill groups power of eminent domain and give authority to the towns Planning & Zoning Commission regarding whether to allow a proposed ash landfill.
If approved by the General Assembly, the legislation sponsored by a state senator, would give the town the power to halt the Connecticut Resource Recovery Authoritys proposed ash landfill.
The whole vote is about do we want a say in the decision-making in our town, said "Blink" resident "John Doe", 73.
Judging from the turnout and talk after the meeting, "Blink" residents do not want the landfill in their town.
If the authority finds the landfill site off "my road" behind the former "Mushroom Factory" environmentally sound, it could turn 150 acres of the property into an ash dump for its trash-to-energy operations.
The proposed site would likely have 60 trucks a day hauling ash waste to it. Ash waste contains toxic heavy metals such as lead.
I dont care what they say, said "Me", a "Blink" mother of four. They will never convince me it is 100 percent safe.
People opposed to the landfill had organized with bumper stickers and signs stating Dump the Dump Keep "Blink" Clean & Green.
Resident "Jane Doe" collected signatures on a petition opposing the dump.
Im going to take the petition to Hartford tomorrow, to show the legislators the people of "Blink" are against the dump, she said.
