Longest you've gone without using your points

We used to vacation at WDW 2 or 3 times per year, now once per year but because of Disney's direction, we have now decided to start going other places and skip some years. Sad really, but the executives just don't care as long as they are making obscene profits.

:earsboy: Bill
We did too...we just sold our points this year. If we want to go, we will rent points.\

I'm with you Bill. We were last there January 2016. Going again in January 2017, but no parks. The passes are too much (almost $4000 Canadian) for our family and there is too much in development right now. After January 2017 we plan on January 2018. Hard to believe I won't set foot in the parks until then.

In January we are going to Universal for the first time. Their AP is only $276 with tax!

Not sure what our future holds where the parks are concerned. It's gotten crazy expensive.

Last year we spent 43 nights at WDW. This year, just 14. Same planned for 2017. We've been renting our points but I can see us selling at some point.
Well we just booked an unexpected six days for September. Had a $400 air voucher about to expire and our APs are good until October. Figured. Why not? Once these APs expire we won't be renewing. The parks are going to be a once in a while thing from now on. We may buy two or three days a year or maybe even less.

We went in March and June, going in September and over NYE into January 2017, all on points.

Our APs expire on Sept 10, 2016 so we will get 1 more trip on them. The NYE trip we will use some non-expiring tickets we still have. I want to go back in May and November 2017 but haven't booked May yet, not sure if we will get new APs.

I guess we are still experiencing the DVC magic. Park magic...not so much.

As to the original question, I think the longest we have gone without using our points is about 9 months.

Living nearby we once went 2 years without using DVC points. Heck, 30 minute drive and we're at the parks. But, now we use the points for Hilton Head, Vero Beach and one or two nights at Old Key West so have managed to use the points every year lately.

We tend to go every two to three years. We bank and borrow so that we can get Magic Kingdom view (2 bedroom) at BLT. Our last trip was for NYE last year. That was a big point expense but we had a blast and really loved the special time (despite the crowds).

We may go 3 years without using them. It's going to be really hard, but my dd is studying abroad next year, and we are saving vacation time and money to go visit her over there.

Since joining DVC what's the longest you've gone without using your points for a Disney vacation (including all non-WDW DVC resorts)?

Our last trip was early May of this year and we may not go to WDW again till Oct 17. The 1.5 year break seems like a long time to me. (We do have some extra points we may use for a trip to HHI in late March of 17)

Ours was 13 months (just checked my signature so I could remember dates),when we were going to go on our first Disney cruise, the following year so had rented out our points. It was painfully long, and I wouldn't do it again. This year it will be the second longest, we will not go for a year (Dec 2015 and going again Dec 2016)

I use mine to visit family so I use them a lot. Last time I used them to actually visit a park was over a year ago. I have a short park visit planned for October, but I think that might be it for a couple of more years, I am kind of over the "pay now for vague promises of future attractions" program.

The longest I've gone without using my points is just less than a year, however since I live 10-miles from DLR I really don't need them unless I go to WDW (which is usually once sometimes twice a year).

I had a baby in 2005, 3 months premature. We couldn't travel for a long time. Didn't go to WDW until 2008.

My heart goes out to you. How are things now? I had a baby at 31 weeks many years ago.

Sorry to be OT. Longest e've gone is about 10 months.

We were last there in April of this year. Next up is an Aulani trip for our 20th anniversary. In order to make that happen, we'll have to bank & borrow. I'm thinking it'll be a spring/early summer trip in 2018. So 2 years. I'm feeling it already.

For us, maybe 10 months. Think it will be longer going forward as the family changes and gets older. I did sell a small contract last year as it looked like with did not need those points as our stays were getting shorter.

I'm in the middle of mine now :( We went in 10/15 and won't be going back until 5/17. This is due to the work at VWL. DH likes staying there. SO, because of the long time between trips we are going on our first DCL trip in October out of NY.

Yeah, umm, hmm. Interesting question -- and I've spent a long time thinking about it. On one hand, we went years w/out using our points for a Disney "vacation" as our original reason for buying was to book BWV for a work-related conference. So, in that light, we went most of Sept 2004-March 2014 w/out using the points for "Disney Vacation" -- but I don't think that is the intent of your question ;) .

Seems, as I consider your question, that I'm a really bad example of "not using points." Even if I wasn't using points for a Disney Vacation -- I was still using them. Regularly. Every year. And now that the conference has ended, we've done all kinds of things with the points ... stayed at the Poly for F&G; completed a 4-night cruise on the Disney Dream; etc. Coming up, we have Aulani in Oct; Grand Cal in Dec and Grand Floridian in Feb (following another short cruise). Yeah! for points. Yeah! for versatility. (Wish we could get The Manhattan Club back via Concierge Club -- as I'd gladly use my points for that non-Disney-vacation again, too!)

We only go every other year. The last trip we took to WDW was four years ago. I did use points to take Girl Scouts to HHI, but it was only my daughter and I and the other leader and scouts - not my son or husband.

I had to look at my signature to figure this out. It looks like the longest we've gone between using points was early on in our membership. We bought in October 2008 and received developer points for SSR in January 2009. We then used our actual points in June 2009. Our next trip on points was not until December 2010, but we did do two trips on cash between 6/09 and 12/10, as I believe there were free dining offers for those two trips. After our December 2010 trip, I realized that we simply did not have enough points and we started doing add ons. Since then, I don't think we have gone more than 9 months between using points. There is a chance that we could go 12 months between our most recent trip and next summer, although I think we are going to squeeze in a couple of nights at Spring Break 2017. I anticipate that we are getting close to the point that it will be 11-13 months between summer trips, as we want to start doing other kinds of vacations now that our son is 10.

For us it will probably be three years since we last used our points, four years for a WDW vacation. We went to Aulani in summer 2015 and we don't have plans to go back until maybe January of 2018. Our last trip to WDW was in July 2014, and we only went in the summer because my daughter's dance studio was attending one of the Disney Young Performers seminars. We've decided to wait until January 2018 because by then both kids will be in college and we can use their longer winter break to go to WDW and avoid the heat. I will never go again in the summer! Fortunately, I was able to rent our 2016 points so we'll just bank the 2017 points for the 2018 trip.

It was more than a year for us. Dec 2014 to April 2016.

In December 2014, we had just sold our house. We went to WDW, got dog sick, had to go do a survey on the sailboat we were in the process of buying, and then home. After that,
we were so busy, that we couldn't go. The boat has kept us busy.

Had enough points for 1 week at HHI (studio, but, they upgrade us to a 1 room) and we have 20 more days until our 2 week stay at the Poly! WHOOO hOOO!
