Longest time you worked for

Same as OP...started in May 1982 and plan to retire from there in 7 years.

Next March I will have 25 years with my fire department. I will retire in 2017 with 30 years and only 57 which is our mandatiry retirement age. Until then still love the job!!

Retired in 2003 after 23 years with the State Department, seeing the world on the taxpayer's dime - Thank you!

I have been at my full time job for 27 years and at the same part time job for 26 years- I don't like to move around from place to place-plus I would lose my pension if I switched jobs! Just over 2 more years until I can retire and my pension checks start rolling in!

First job was 10 years, then I was lucky enough to be able to stay home with my kids for 20 years. I'm at my current job for 16 years (yes, I'm old). If I knew I would be working this long I would have looked for a new job years ago.

Three years. LOL In my defense, I've come home to be a stay at home mom and I'm only 27. Technically I left to go to college and then came back but my employer let me keep my years of service when I came back and reinstated me in my position when I came back. I babysat for his son for years before I worked in his office.

Interestingly, it is where I met my DH.. even if we weren't married while we were there. We started dating when I when I returned to the company although he didn't work there anymore.

DH has been with the same company for 4 years this July. But his company is up for being bought out. It's actually the same company that bought out his old company and then laid him off. Soooooooooo.. we don't know what will happen or if he'll be able to combine his years of service.

Going on 10 years. I will probably be there for the long haul and probably have another 30+ years before I can retire. Ugh!

Just retired after almost 32 years :cool1: I get two pensions, one from the company that was taken over, and one from the newer company. They have now stopped pensions just as I retired, but all of us before the stop time are entitled to accrued pensions.

Love it..no worry about layoffs again...

just under 7 on a paid position. Years spent on the mom gig?...infinity and beyond :rotfl:

I have been at my current job almost 23 years and DH just started his 40th year with the same company.

Started working at Giant Eagle grocery store at age 16 and worked there for 7 years. Got a "real" job after graduating from college (local community college) in 1995 and have been there now for 16 years.

I did a few stints at other places while still working at Giant Eagle. I worked weekends at a convenience store while in college and still at Giant Eagle. I had to do an internship at the end of school and took a leave from Giant Eagle for 6 months to work at HJ Heinz in Pittsburgh. I was still on the employee list at Giant Eagle during that time though. Came back to GE after the internship for a year until I graduated (had a semester of English to finish) and got the job I'm currently at.

17 years.

I now stay home with my kids and we moved across the country, but I would still work there if we hadn't moved.
