longer at a value resort or shorter at deluxe

Will be going back again :sad2: and trying to decide whether the family would be better off for a shorter time at a moderate or deluxe vs. a longer time at a value. DW opinion is longer at a deluxe :scared1: but money doesn't grow on trees around here. My bias is shorter time, but I only go because the family loves the place and I love the family.

I vote for longer at a value or maybe a split stay between value and mod/deluxe. Also, have you looked into renting from a dvc member? You can usually get a Sunday through Thursday for a good deal.

I vote for longer at the value because we are hardly in our room anyway. Now if money was no object....

DH and I had the same dilemma back in Jan. when we booked. We ultimately chose longer at a value because with the jam-packed schedule I've planned, we will basically be at the resort just to sleep. It all depends on how much time you spend in the parks vs. resorts. I haven't been to WDW since I was a teenager, so I have lots to catch up on in the parks (including a whole new one, AK!) so I knew our resort would basically be just a place to lay our heads down for a few hours. But if I was a seasoned Disney veteran, I would probably enjoy a more relaxed trip and the amenities of a deluxe would be more valuable.

I say longer at a value.

As much as I'd love to stay in a deluxe resort, I just can't justify the cost. We're only in the room long enough to shower and sleep.

In order to really enjoy the resort, we'd have to cut out some park time.:scared1:

I agree. We even schedule down time at hotel, and found we either nap/rest, swim, get a bite to eat............and we can do all of that at a value just as easily as deluxe. There is just so much to do, I would vote for more time any day.

I think i'm in the minority here and I might get flamed but I vote Shorter at Deluxe..

I think there are so many more benefits with the deluxe..

i.e. transportation: possible monorail access to parks, or boat/walk to park. I don't know about anyone else but big lines/crowds at bus stops just add stress to my vacation.

Food Options: table service/room service or lobby setup for coffee/bagels in morning. Nothing was worse than trying to get a cup of coffee at the Pop last november and having people reach over me to fill their cup or reach around me to grab a donut after I just opened the door to the baked goods at the food court...It was crazy.

Looks like your on a schedule to go each year.. in that case, I vote less stress, less crowds, enjoy your surroundings and attention to detail Disney puts into the resorts.. :thumbsup2

Just my opinion of course :goodvibes It all depends on what your looking for in your vacation.

We find the Moderates to be just right for us! Not too hectic like the Values might be, and not so expensive like the Deluxes!

Another vote for a longer stay at a value resort. I find we're really only in the room to sleep and shower. The rest of the time we're either in the parks or hanging out at the pool.

I would maybe try a moderate resort and see if you can stay longer. We have only stayed twice on site and both times POFQ. Would love to stay at WL, but not sure.

Good Luck on your decision making.

Every single time I would chose longer at a value. :) To me it's just a given, but then it takes me at least a couple days to relax once I get there.

The rooms all look the same with your eyes closed :thumbsup2 . If you're going to be on the go all day then I cannot see any reason to spend the $$$ if the budget is tight. You can still enjoy the ambiance of a deluxe by touring the grounds or having a meal at one of the restaurants.

depends on what kind of a trip you want. If you are going to be at the parks most of the time, I would pick longer at a value, but if I were going to be hanging out and just relaxing I would go with the shorter time at a deluxe.

We use to go to mods, but anymore there seems to be a huge price difference between them. I think the last time I looked it was almost $50 a night more than a value. I would pay $20 or $25 more a night, but not $50.

I vote for the value. I have done a few deluxes and while they are pretty and it's nice to be on the monorail I would rather have more time at the parks.

Last time we stayed on the monorail I remember it was great for MK and Epcot. Other than that they didn't have busses to DTD until 4:30. You had to take the monorail to the Ticket transportation center then catch a bus, as do you for MGM and AK. So, really we were waiting for a bus almost as much as we did anywhere else and had to have a mini trip there to get to our waiting spot. I was not impressed at all with that system for the price we were paying. Now, this was 8 years ago so maybe they offer busses now straight from the hotel. :confused3

The buss lines for the values don't bother me at all, but we do tend to go when crowds are lower so maybe that's why they don't bother me.

That alll being said, if money grew on trees I would stay on the monorail, take it to Magic Kingdom and Epcot, then drive everywhere else just so I didn't have to deal with 2 small children, bags, and a stroller on the busses. Maybe some day!! :cloud9:

My 2 cents is:

My preferred Choice # 1: split the trip with value at the front of the trip & the night before you leave (the last night is a waste of the deluxe experience if you ask me) with 2-3 days at a deluxe towards the end. WDW will move all your packed luggage for you so it will be at your new resort after you are done with the days fun. We did a switch this year & it was flawless.

Choice #2: go with one of the Port Orleans moderates because the crowds just are not as big as at the values. Yes, I agree the rooms all look the same when you are sleeping and they are all just as clean with nice grounds. But if huge crowds & lots of noise will rattle you (it does us) then a compromise might be a good idea.

Good luck.

My vote:

Longer at the value. I think the values are fun! We don't spend a lot of time in our rooms.

One thought to consider........if you stay fewer days at the Deluxe would you take time to enjoy the resort? I think it is not worth the money to stay at a deluxe but then spend all the time at the parks.

Wherever we stay we always take a full day to enjoy the resort. We also enjoy about 1/2 day enjoying the pools on arrival day.

Shorter at a deluxe or rent points from a DVC member. - Sorry, I have no extra to rent. :rolleyes1

I thought I could do the value resorts, and we did all stars for a week in September. It just wasn't nearly as relaxing as it was to come home to our big fluffy bed at the boardwalk.

We also found the bus ride from the all stars to everwhere but Animal Kingdom to be VERY long.

How often do you go? If you go every year, then go for the shorter stay at a deluxe or moderate resort.

I probably won't stay at a value resort again for the following reasons:

1. No towel service at the pools (with 4 kids, that's a lot of towels to pack and then lug around).

2. No slides at the pools-big disapointment for my older 2 kids.

3. There is only one bus stop per resort.

4. The que for the bus is not covered.

5. The food courts are noisy.

6. The rooms are not as nice. The theming is too tacky for me.

You can stay at Port Orleans (one of our favorites) for just a little bit more than a value, and you get so much more. Oh well, that's just my opinion. I'm sure you'll have a great time no matter where you stay.

I agree with most of the posters, more time at WDW in a value resort. The value resorts are all pretty good. I think your family would agree as well. Also, maybe a split stay would work. I have never tried it, I like to get to my room and stay in one place. However, I know lots of people who stay at two separate resorts. Something to think about!!:teacher:
