Long weekend - madness or fun

My hubby and i have got 4 and a half days of child free bliss in feb, so we thought lets go to orlando. We have decided to do universal instead of disney as we have a 29 day family holiday booked in Sept 07.

Has anyone ever done a long weekend is it madness? We are going to travel PE with virgin so hopefully catch some sleep there and back.

Also when does spring break start in America?

Great idea! Treat it as a city break - after all plenty of people go to NYC for 3/4 nights, so why not Orlando?! Travelling PE will definitely make it more relaxing. I'm joining my DH for 5 nights in Orlando in March - he's at a conference and I get to stay in a nice hotel for free!

We were in Orlando last March and April.
I'd planned to avoid Spring Break (or so I thought ) but we found that different States appeared to acknowledge different dates?

I know the college spring break is from the 5th-9th March, although they vary I think by state possibly?

Sorry to be negative but for me it's Madness - the long flight and distance involved , personally I wouldn't go for such a short period.
Half the time you will be there will be spent adjusting to the different sleeping pattern etc

I think Fun!!! definately - you can sleep on the flight home, I've been to New York and San Francisco for 3 night breaks and it wasn't horrendously tiring, its not like you don't know your way around, I'd say go for it

I doubt many places would have broken up for Spring Break in Feb. Not enough to make a real difference. We went Late late Feb early March. Crowd picked up A LOT during second week in March.

Fun for sure ~ I always wok on the principle that 'I'll sleep when I'm dead' or on the plane on the way home I would go for it, 4 days in Orlando certainly beats 4 days anywhere else

Definitely fun! When I worked for British Airways, me and DBF went on staff travel for 4 days/3 nights. We didn't cram too much into our days, we just did one park and some shopping. We were very tired when we came home but it was brilliant

IMHO - Madness!

Of all the places you can go for a break without kids you want to go somewhere teeming with them and have the long flights to deal with as well. Still, at least you're going to US ...

With travel times to and from the airport combined with the flights there and back, (and jetlag) we would be travelling for far too much to make it worthwhile.

wouldnt you end up with less time there though, as 1 day will be spent travelling there and then you'll have half a day before your flight home!
But if you want to then go for it!!

It wouldnt be for me Im afraid, of course thats just my opinion, the jet lag gets me good and proper after 2 weeks, however that said if you think you can do it I hope you have great fun

Go for it, the Virgin flights get in at a decent time and you don't leave until the evening. The PE will be a nice treat and will allow you to get off the plane first (so through immigration first)

As others have said, people go to New York, Vegas etc for short breaks (myself included) so why not Orlando?

I've often said that there isn't any difference between going to, say, New York for a short break and going to Orlando. Though the theory is fine, I'm not sure I'd actually be able to bring myself to do it. The cost of the flights for such a short time would be a big issue for me and I'd hate having to come home.

I don't think jet-lag should be a concern. On the way out, you'll be able to take advantage of getting to the parks early and you won't be there long enough to suffer any serious effects when you get back.

Presidents' Day is the third Monday in February (19th in 2007), and makes both the preceeding weekend and the following week very busy.

I agree. Then again I think going to NY for a weekend break is a bit mad too.. Personally i'd rather wait til I had more time if that was an issue and have at least a week in any US destination.
Have fun though, it'll certainly be an experience!

You will, in my opinion, be able to make whatever adaptations you feel are necessary....
