Long time member question about transfering points without getting ripped off

First off, thanks for still having this web site up and running. I have been gone for many years and I was very happy to see it was still active. I looked around a bit to try to find an answer to my challenge, but I could not find exactly what I was looking for, so here goes. I am a long time owner, since about 1999 I believe. We have taken annual trips to DL and WLD for many, many years and really enjoyed the resorts. Now the kids are in college and the trips are less frequent. I have points that I have to bank by 7/31 and then more coming on line in December. There is no way that I will be able to use them as we are not planning a Disney trip until at least 2017. I looked at some of these companies that do the consignment thing, but they seemed pretty shaky. I do want to get ripped off and I really do not have time to play travel agent. I just want to transfer the points to another member for a fair price. What is the best way to do this while ensuring that you do not become one of the (few they may be ) victims of getting ripped off in making one of these deals? Thanks for your thoughts.

P. S. I considered the RCI option, but I must admit that I was a little disappointed with the selections available there. I was expecting resorts on a par with at least the older Disney properties.

As the one doing the transfer, you really have very little opportunity to "get ripped off" as the buyer is bearing the brunt of the risk. That is assuming they are paying in full up front. Some sellers do allow for split payment before and after the transfer- in that case, I would allow that for an established buyer.

I have done lots of transfers to buyers and always include references, links to my business, links to the deed on request, etc. to try to put them at ease.

Keep in mind that you will still pay the MFs on transferred points and that you can only do one transfer per UY. I'm sure you know this, but just in case ;)...

You should rent your points, not transfer, probably, since you are only allowed one transfer per year and you have a lot of points. I don't think you should have any concerns if you did it through David's DVC rental, they are a board sponsor and have a very good reputation, not shady at all.

When I did a transfer, I asked for full payment up front and once I had it, I transferred the points. As mentioned, it was the buyer who was at risk. To be fair, I think it helped that I am a board moderator, but there are plenty of transactions that happen through this site that go off without a hitch. There are rules for offering points for rent/transfer so be sure to read them all on the Rent/Trade thread. And, thank you for not including specifics of what you have and want to offer and keeping your question general, as those would not have been allowed in this thread!!!

Good luck!!!

I have rented points out through David's and it was a simple process and I got paid without any problems. If I were to rent my points out again I would do it through them without any hesitation at all!
