Just discovered the fees for our chosen airport this trip:headache: 21.50 per day, long term! This is White plains NY, I had no idea the prices would be so high! I guess i;d been previously spoiled by all the choices at BDL,a lot of competition and the cost was about $60 per week!
Are these prices high? To me they are.... time to start calling friends!

Yikes! Our pitiful little airport is $6 per day for the long-term lot.

Do you have the option of something off-site? Any local hotels offer a parking service? Some of the off-site lots will give a discount with an AAA card. The Entertainment Book may have discount coupons also. I agree, long term parking can eat into a vacation budget.

Good Luck.

Yipes! At those prices, I'd check into a limo to take me to/from airport!!

We generally choose an early morning flight and then book the night before at a Courtyard or something like that near the airport. The cost for one night's lodging is LESS than parking for a week, AND we get dropped right at the door. Can't beat that!

good idea- I'm going to check out lodging nearby.....

hsmamato2 -

Friends recently flew out of HPN and complained about the parking charges also! $21.50 per day is steep! We fly out of Newburgh where it's $40/wk in the long term lot.

Keep me posted if you find any hotels with park/sleep and fly. I was unsucessful when I looked into it at HPN a few months ago.

One place I didn't check is the rental car companies at the airport. I know in the past I have parked at the National car rental at LGA. Lot is secure and they have a shuttle to the airport. Maybe one of the agencies would let you park there.

We are flying to MCO in April, but booked b/4 the great AirTran sale, so grabbed flights out of SWF. But I would love to learn if you find any good deals parking at HPN for future reference.

Thanks!

Parking has always been pricy at HPN. I used to fly out of there all the time on business, and always took car service to the airport. Much more economical.

Pittsburgh International (what a joke) actually is quite reasonable on their parking prices.

Short Term:
$1.00/1st hour
$3.00/ea. addl. hr.
$18.00/ daily MAX

Long Term:
$1.50/hour
$9.75/daily MAX

Extended:
$6.75/Daily MAX

Yeah, definitely check lodging nearby. I found a hotel in Indy for 130 we would get a nice room and also they would keep our car while we are away the 9 days and shuttle us back and forth to the airport. GREAT DEAL in my oppinion figuring the parking was going to be 70 bucks alone and we needed the hotel since the airport is 2 hours away from our house and we are leaving really early.

We always stay at a hotel, and take the shuttle in. It takes a bit longer than we like when we get home, but it saves a ton...and starts vacation a day earlier!

$21+ a day parking in the regular daily lots at major airports is the norm these days.

Logan Airport - $22 daily

O'Hare - $25 daily

Wow- so you all know what I'm talking about! I wouldn't have chosen this airline/airport knowing about these fees, but it's done now!:cutie:
Anyway- the idea about a nearby hotel for the car is a good one, do they really agree to let you leave your car there for,say,2 weeks while you're gone? The only nearby one I saw online didn't say as much on their site, and was $150 a night...sigh- We lucked out and found a friend willing to get up REALLY early and drive us down, we'll just pay her, she's our limo service this time!:rotfl: It's a good thing I have this friend.... live and learn!

Another possibility is 2 one-day local car rentals. It can mean extra driving to pick up and return the car, but for a long trip it's a major savings. Depending on the days of the week you might be able to do it quite cheaply.

I'm thinking that someone in White Plains needs to get on the stick and open a franchise offsite secure parking lot. There is money waiting to be made.

Unfortunately, cheap land is not readily available in Westchester, and you really need a good chunk of cheap land to make a parking franchise work.

I like the towncar idea. We've done that once or twice, and it's fab. When I fly out of Detroit, I often book the Westin park-n-fly rate; 8 days of valet parking plus a room *in* the northwest terminal building for $160 on the weekends. Great deal.
