in a galaxy far, far away,

I could walk into a drugstore, fill a prescription, and not have to worry -- I had full insurance coverage, no co pay.

the prescription I filled today...well, trying to figure out the copay was an adventure in itself. and when I got the bill...my wallet cried.

I feel your pain.

I recently was turned away from a pharmacy because they said my insurance did not cover a medication I was prescribed. I actually ended up switching health care providers. I had had Harvard pilgrim. Now I have United. So far, United's been awesome.

It's only going to get worse. We spent $4000 having my son's tonsils removed. It was half that price only 3 years ago. Medical coverage is becoming an employer's biggest concern as rates skyrocket.

Just imagine how difficult this is for our elderly. :(

I know, my mother is constatnly doing battle with her inaurance company and my father's insurnace company ... and they're the lucky ones.

It's really a crime. If you talk to a Canadian about this, they can't even fathom how this could be. They know what they're doing up there when it comes to medical coverage.

they also have a tax rate that is WAY higher that ours.

i am very lucky to have excellent health insurance and only a $5 copay. honestly, that insurance is the main reason i would think long and hard about finding a new job.

I feel your pain. I just had two prescriptions filled yesterday at Walgreens. One was $87 and the other was $197.40. :earseek:

When I used to work at Walgreens corporate office, one of our perks was any prescription for $5.00. I miss those days.

Has anyone tried to use a Canadian mail order web site to order drugs? I see a few listed, with good prices. is it legal for Americans to do this?

Coming from both sides of the fence.....it really tends to even out at the end of the day (except if you have exceptional insurance coverage)

We have very good insurance, and with our deductables it really kind of balances out with the tax you pay in Canada.

There is wwwwaaayyyyy too much paperwork involved here in the US (coming from someone who has never had to deal with medical/prescription paperwork) and could feel your pain Briar Rose!

The problem here is if there is a computer glitch, or problem you pay and work it out later - which usually is a big hassle

On the other side, the service and facilities here are excellent, up North sometime it's not so good!

But back to the OP

Went to the pharmacy for DS - no problem (except with insurance it still cost $87.00 - yikes), two days later, another anti-biotic not the same type and insurance company said DD wasn't listed for benefits.....no problem only cost $25. (???) and submit it later. I guess it's that DD never gets sick - so the one time she is - she isn't allowed to!!!
