Wanted to give people a heads up on Dollar car rental at MCO. We rented on 3-21. The lines inside terminal A had at least 25 people in them and only 3 agents working. People near the front of the line were saying they had waited over an hour. We rented through AAA but included our Dollar rewards account number so I was not sure we could go to the garage and skip the line. It would not let me check in the night before. We took the chance and went to the garage and luckily our name was on the board and there was no line. The rep said we needed to go inside. I told her our name was on the pickup board and she was able to enter the details on her computer. It took about 5 minutes.

It really pays to join their loyalty program to avoid those lines. Very strange because they were the only ones with lines.

We arrived to MCO around midnight last December and the Dollar/Thrifty counter had a long line. 2-3 people working with about 10-15 minutes per customer. We ended up waiting almost two hours (2am!).

At certain points, the other counter people would leave and there was only one person working. Never again will I rent with Dollar/Thrifty at MCO. This was not the first time we had to wait a long time.

This is why we rent with Alamo. You do everything at home and walk to the garage when you get there and pick out any car from the car class you booked. Was waiting at the exit booth 38 minutes after our flight landed last week.

You can also do this with Dollar, if you sign up for their loyalty program. People just need to know to do it ahead of time.

Spring break, many people that probably have never rented a car before. I would assume lots of Pre-pays and third party bookings. Can't say it surprises me. One of the big reasons I do the research ahead of time and figure out what I can do to avoid that line. 15 rentals over the last 3 years and only stood in one line. Nashville the day after a snowstorm.

Any updates if Dollar still allows you to go right to the garage if you are in their loyalty club? I ask only because Dollar seems to be aligned with Thrifty which I hear has recently NOT allowed people to go directly to the garage.
