We leave for Disney in five days! I need some advice!!!

I am normally a medium length hair kind of girl...about shoulder length. THIS year I'm growing my hair out for Locks of Love. I was hoping I'd have had enough length by the time we got to our trip to be able to cut it.

not so.

We leave in five days and I'm taking my very long hair with me!:lmao:

I was wondering if anyone could recommend some strong elastics that can be pulled tight without breaking! I have a lot of hair but it's very fine. I need to be able to pull elastics around my hair three times to keep it securely up. I have been SHOCKED at how flimsy elastics are these days. I've been using the Scunci "no slip grip" elastics. I'd had good luck with them in the past. I bought a new pack and as I was putting my hair up this morning the darn thing BROKE. I wasn't even pulling that hard!

I used to use the "ouchless" little plastic-y bands. They were great. Now they are pathetic and stretch way too much and SNAP just like that.

I am in trouble! I can't walk around in the florida humidity with my hair down or in a sad little pony/messy bun just KNOWING it will fall out in second.

So any advice for strong elastics?! (I can't use the ones with balls on the ends. I can't coordinate my self!)

thanks in advance!!! Much appreciated!!!:goodvibes

I buy the thicker goody ouchless elastics...never had a problems. I have really thick hair.

My hair is lil longer than shoulder length. Recently, I got hair extensions for length and thickness, I LOVE THEM! Anyhoo.... now I use these elastic which are great, Goody's purchased at Wal-Mart:

I also have fine hair, I just have a lot of it. I need a thick elastic that can be pulled tight around my hair to prevent little strays. I use the the Thick Goody Elastics Ouchless and I can get 3 to 4 twists on it. I have yet to have it snap on me. I can't use the textured ones though as I find they hurt and rip out my hair. Also if you like the bun look try Spin Pins. They are AMAZING, they are fast and really really hold the hair, you don't even need a pony tail holder.

These are the ones that snap on me!!! (as well as the Scuni version) Maybe I'm just super strong!:confused3;)

Thanks so much everyone for your advice!!! Much appreciated!!!

I just keep telling myself that it's for Locks of Love and it's important so shaving my head would be a selfish thing to do!:rotfl:

I use the Goody Ouchless elastics. I usually use two though, just so it feels secure without being too tight.

Just make sure you always, ALWAYS keep 2-3 on your wrist during the day. That way, if one breaks, you have backups. There's nothinggggg worse that walking around in the heat all day without having a way to pull your hair back.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I am growing my hair out for locks of love too and have a mess of long hair! I too like the ouchless but they can only go twice around my hair b/c it is so thick. But what I do in FL is: do my ponytail, kinda twist and wrap your pony around the base to create a bun. I secure that with 2 of those claw clips. You know they are kinda round and I think ouchless even makes then with a rubber band on the inside to keep them from slipping. Then you don't have anything to worry about. One other thing to consider is in Japan in Epcot. In the back of the main shop in Japan, where they sell the Kimono's, they have the hair sticks! A woman showed me how to use them and I can even get all my hair wadded up with one. They are awesome and I even wear it back home instead of clipping my hair up all the time. They are really pretty too. Lastly, what about a braid or french braid.... Hope this helps.

I usually wear a baseball cap, and pull the pony tail through the opening in the back, that way even if the elastic band falls out it's still out of my face.

my hair is the same as yours only mine is realllyyyyy thick! i always needed to wrap an elastic three times or use two elastics because they never held but then i found these:

I dont know why but the fact that there flat makes them work so much better and now i only have to wrap the elastic twice!

I use those too and they work well for me. Just discovered them. I have a lot of very thick hair and have donated to locks of love 4 different times. So, I know what you mean!

So glad you posted this because I thought I was the only one that is frustrated with the cheap rubberbands. I cannot stand how all rubberbands are the ouchless kind now. I have very long & thick hair & can only get one use out of them because they stretch all out when I wear them. I like the old kind with the metal clasp, but no one sell those anymore.
I always put two rubberbands in my hair & that helps hold the ponytail tight.
The clear plastic bands work good too if you double up on them too. You can only get one use out of them though.
I'm going to go try those new flat rubberbands that you've had two posters to talk about.

My daughter has fine hair. I find that I can rubberband the hair in sections and then put all those sections into a thicker band.

Like for this trip youngest DD and I will do one of those Banded braids. You know the braids for people who can't do braids. But I will use browns so they don't stick out so much.

I've got THE BEST ones for you. Picked them up at Walgreens last week in a bogo deal. :D They're rubber and there's no seam or joint-it's got a lateral seam that runs all the way around the band so no snapping! :D there's different packs with different colors. I chose the bright ones :D I'm hooked. They DON'T stretch out, don't snap, and hold like crazy. no re-doing your hair when it slides out.

Also, I know you said you wanted pony tail holders, but these are amazing as well: http://www.walgreens.com/store/cata...Brunette-Spin-Hair-Pin/ID=prod6024772-product

I have two sets and put two buns in my hair, one behind each ear. EASY, doesn't fall out (even in the water park!) and a quick repair if you mess it up.

How do you use these? I have tried similar things before and nothing seems to work. Do you have layers or all the same length hair? My hair is full of layers (trying to get them to grow out now) so I am not sure if that is why I can't get anything to stay in.

I bought some spin pins just the other night. I have to say, they do NOT hold my hair. At all. I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what, but as per the directions, I twisted my hair into a bun, one spin pin went in the top and one in the bottom. Didn't hold even for a second. I tried 20 different ways and I couldn't get one good hold.

My hair is very willful. I'm so jealous of my step daughter's thick heavy Italian hair. I always tell her that I'm going to cut her hair off and paste it to my head. She always tells me I'm welcome to it. She'd have it grown back in two blinks!:lmao:

I think i'm going to have to just carry a lot of hair elastics with me, double up and hope things stay put. I can also twist it up with clips as well. And there's always the baseball cap look...which I can SO rock!!;):lmao:

I"m glad I'm not the only one who struggles with long hair issues at Disney!

2 more days!!!!

Get one of those brown or black big clippies, I got mine at walmart for about $4 and it holds all day. Another idea is to braid your hair and then use bobby pins to pin it to your head.

Good luck

I don't do one up and one down, I cross them more like an X. I make the "bun", tuck the ends under the bottom of the bun, press it to my head, then "screw" it in, making sure to catch both hair against my head and hair in the bun. I usually do one top down and one side to side. The big trick is to make sure you catch the hair both in the bun and next to your head as well. Just twisting through the bun itself will not hold it.

I'm sorry to hear you've had trouble with them! I've quickly become an addict...I wear them in my hair almost every day. My hair is all one length, but i do have some sections where the hair has broken off and is shorter (from pony tail holders). It's about shoulder length right now, and I usually split my hair in half and do two buns side by side (behind each ear).

Hope my tips help. Let me know if it works!! I'll see if I can come up with some other explanation or some ridiculously silly video tutorial. :D

I know I said it already, but go to Epcot and in Japan get 1 or 2 hair sticks. They are in the big shop where they do the pearl jewelry. The girls at the counters or in the back by the kimono's can help you in no time. They are awesome and they don't pull or break your hair like a rubber band does. Not to mention they are beautiful.

I've had good luck with these http://www.goody.com/#/grid/lacabana/products/beachbag_ponytail_holders

Somebody posted a picture of black ones with a white/clear cover on the back- those would rip out my hair...

I end up stretching them out eventually, but they work really well. I have fine hair, in layers. For Disney, I wear a hat and pull it into a ponytail, and pull up the sides with small barrettes, unless we're going to head out for pictures- then it's nice for pictures and up ASAP!!!

:goodvibes

I use a regular rubberband and an octopus clip. I get the clip at Wal-Mart. It doesn't matter if the rubberband stretches because I pull my hair up in the band and then clip it up on the back of my head. Right now I have a 'ponytail' because it is so long but it keeps it off my neck and works perfectly!
